I was fortunate to draw a Selkirk tag along with good friends Jess, we both drew and it wasn’t a group draw! You can read his post, I’ll just bring you all up on the moose I shot.
We had been putting in a lot of time getting to know the area with not much success except the small 2 point we passed on day one. On day 4 we stopped at a spot we liked did some calling and scraping, didn’t hear any responses, about the time we were going to move on spotted a bull we called out of the bottom in a small little clear cut about 900 yds. away.
As we both had tags we had done a coin flip for first shot, I was the lucky one.
There was a road about 260 yds above the moose so I made my way there and started calling and scraping. The landscape as most of it is is very steep and thick so I could not see the bull. Immediately I heard him start grunting back at me . It was sort of quiet at first then starting getting louder so I new he was moving in my direction. We kept grunting back at each other (still could not see him) after a few minutes I could see brush moving below me at about 60 yds. ( still not visible) then the antlers became visible!
I knew at this point if I stayed behind the bushes he was probably coming all the way to the road!
I sat and waited, ready to shoot he stepped out from behind the bushes broadside in the road at about 40 yds. As you can see by the picture it turned out well.
It was a great hunt, being with a good fried (steelywhopper) made a hunt of a lifetime as it’s suppose to be.
Thanks to all that helped with info. It’s big country without help getting started it would have been very tough to figure out.
As Steelywhopper said a big shout out to officer Erickson and his partner. Officer Erickson returned my calls before the hunt and we ran into him and his partner in the field. He is exactly what a game warden should be. Very friendly helpful and just a good person. We need more like him in the field.
If anyone is fortunate to draw this permit feel free to contact me I would be glad to pass on any info. I have.

If he would have died where we first put eyes on him we'd probably still be there trying to get to him! It was pretty awesome watching Landerfish call that bull all the way up to the road and then seeing him go down made my legs and back happy :chuckle:
