Title: tagged a whitetail this morning
Post by: runningboard on November 11, 2007, 01:38:49 PM
Was planning a day with my 11 year-old girl today but she was reading until late and wouldn't get up. so I headed out by myself, went to check out GMU 117 since I still have an archery tag for elk and haven't really looked over there yet. I was walking up a road on Tacoma creek and saw what looked like a good place to set up and call. I made my way over to a knob overlooking two draws filled with cedars but not choked with 'em. I used the "can" estrus bleat twice, grunted once, the can once more & grunted once more. then I rattled with a bag for about 40-45 seconds and grunted once. I used my breath to check the wind (it was cold!) and looked downwind about thirty seconds after the last grunt and there was a whitetail at 57 paces (paced afterwards). and I took him with one shot from a 25-06 thru the neck. it was 8:00am. 4x5, nice width and tine length but not very much mass. all-in-all a good tag-filler! will get pictures if I can later, now my little girl is ready to go!
