A friend of mine over in Idaho ask me if I knew what this mushroom was.
He said it is on his property. He said that it is a giant shroom that are growing on the beach our his pond.
He also said that the sand is purple when it rains.
Any idea what it is and is it edible?

Here a couple more

Looks like a nasty old puff ball or something. Hard to tell. :dunno:

Cut it in half and get a good pic of it. Could be a truffle!

Too big for an OR white truffle. It may be a tuber, but no truffle. The biggest OR whites are at best the size of a half dollar and mostly quite a bit smaller.

What's the difference in a tuber and a truffle? Aren't they the same? Or are you thinking magnatum tuber! 💰

It asks you to take a couple of pictures, 1 top & 1 bottom, and provides id.

This is hilarious, my hunting buddy used this this year and probably ate 15 different species of mushrooms on our elk hunt.

All truffles are tubers. Not all tubers are truffles. A potato is a tuber, but it is not a truffle! :chuckle:

Ok I meant strictly fungi. I wasn't thinking potatoes and Irises sir! Lol Am I wrong about a magnatum then? Is that not a fungi? Honest question. Edit: I looked it up, a magnatum is a truffle. I thought it was two different things.

Tuber magnatum is the Italian white truffle, the most prized in the world. Tuber oregonense is the winter white truffle found in the PNW, and the Tuber gibbosum is the white Spring truffle found here. Italian whites can sometimes be as big as a softball, the largest of the year auctioning off for$25-100K each year for charity. Typically, wholesale prices for Italian whites are from $1,500-3,000/lb to the chefs. OR Whites are typically $80-120/lb.

Whatever it is, it’s past it’s prime Which makes identification difficult.
