Title: Grouse Near Port Townsend?
Post by: salish on October 28, 2021, 11:50:15 AM
I find that I will be attending a family gathering in Port Townsend this weekend. Are there any opportunities to hunt grouse in those areas between Port Townsend and the Hood Canal bridge? I'm finding very little info on the WDFW website. Thanks.

Up until last year, there was a ton of Pope ground (private - feel free to hunt) in the area that I've done OK on. They recently sold to Rayonier and it requires a permit to access now. There is a lot of State & National Forest in the area, but I haven't spent a lot of time focusing on grouse there.

Find some old skid roads or logging roads, or walk creek bottoms for ruffed grouse. Hike or drive up high and look for food sources if you're targeting Blues. Watch for mushroom pickers this time of year.

Hope that helps.
