Was thinking of expanding my drive while gas is at it's highest price right now... :chuckle:...I've never hunted Chief Joseph and was wondering if access is pretty good for chasing chukar. I've come across a few hiking posts on another website and it seems like there are only two locations.

Good access, but all uphill. Plan to gain elevation before hunting. The laughing will tell you how far you have to go.

I've hunted turkeys there for years, but there has been such a drastic reduction in numbers this past season I didn't even bother. I always see lots of wildlife, and quite a few pheasants, but oddly enough I've never seen any chukar there. And I get into some elevation, too. I'm not sure why that is since it's practically in chukar heaven. I must not have gotten high enough to encounter birds. Like metlhead said, be prepared for steep.
