The lost hunter thread reminded me that I should probably share this with others. I've had my Inreach Mini for a few years now, this season during general deer it stopped working mid trip. It would just say "locating satellites". I don't know if I still could have sent an SOS or not, but I couldn't use the tracker or messages so it stayed in the truck. When I got home I emailed Garmin and they sent me directions on how to update the software. Bingo, good to go. Kind of sketchy that it could stop working mid-trip like that but I guess I'll make more of an effort to stay on top of the updates from now on. They said to check every 6 months.

Good reminder, I saw an email about it but didn’t want to mess with it during the season.

Very good reminder. I got mine out a day before I left for an elk hunt this year and tried to send a test message to my wife... no go. I could send messages to her email address and to other buddies, but messages to her phone and my phone would not go through. Evidently it had something to do with T-Mobile blocking the messages as spam, because the messages contained a link. Not a life and death situation as I could still use it to message and I'm assuming the SOS function would have worked, but a good reminder to test things out well in advance of leaving. In the end I changed a few settings and was able to get it to work, but wasted quite a bit of time messing with it when I should have been packing.
And yes, I did have to do a software update as well.

I think you can update off the my gamin page or the Sync page.
