This video has cursing and drinking of alcohol while hunting with shotguns in its content. If this offends you don’t watch it. It is rated “Not for kids”
Weather conditions were ideal for our duck hunt Friday after Thanksgiving. North wind about 15 steady with overcast skies, perfect. We had good amounts of teal and big ducks on the move right from the beginning of the hunt. We had been doing well in this spot so we had all of us in one blind for the hunt. Lots of fun cutting up, hunting, eating and some cold beer. We hunted until 10:00am.
After the hunting part in the latter part of the video we have to back out of our spot because the trenasse we use we can’t turn around. The motor is a 2007 36HP Pro Drive surface drive with manual full power reverse and manual trim getting it done. She is still going strong after all these years with lots of duck hunts in the slop.
The video shows us shooting 30 ducks which was surprising to me. Even more of a surprise was the very next day four of us went to the same spot on another good day for a duck hunt and shot 1 duck. Makes no sense at all.
Numbers of ducks taken in that spot since opening day – 24 – 5 – 24 – 24 – 24 – 5 – 6 – 30 – 1 - 5

Is it legal to hunt under the influence in Louisiana? If not, this should be removed.

Did I miss something? Just becuase you drive your boat backwards and wear your coat on the outside of your waders doesn't make you drunk.
Looked like fun time to me! Where do you find those Cajun pickled quail eggs? Those had me salivating and I've never ever had pickled quail eggs :EAT:

Hate to tell you this but being "under the influence" does not mean drunk. If you are drinking or consuming alcohol it is influencing you. I dont know about the legality but it sure seems like a weird thing to put on the internet. Im sure its done a lot and im pretty sure i dont agree with mixing alcohol and firearms. Imagine if you had a "acccident" while drinking. Would you ever not wonder if the "accident" would have happened had you been sober? I certainly wouldnt hunt with someone who was drinking while shooting.

I didn't watch the video and don't intend to. But if it "has cursing and drinking of alcohol while hunting with shotguns in its content" and it is rated “Not for kids”, does it belong on HuntWA?
I'll leave that up to the Mods.

I hunted with a guide in eastern WA. Very reputable. I was in the spot they were planning on hunting. Stayed the night in our spot in January. Frozen reservoir. So they showed up at 4am like wtf?! I said go ahead and hunt with us. They had some wine with lunch. Let’s be realistic, how many guys CC and go have a beer? Or drive their truck home after one or two. I’m not supporting it but I’m also not going to look down my nose at someone. Every situation is completely different. Many variables. Enjoying a nice cold beer in a duck blind with friends, go for it. Getting tossed and rowdy. Hell no

not the same as actively drinking while shooting. All before 10am.... i get the different situations. I certainly wouldnt post videos online of me drinking and shooting. Thats just me. i also wouldnt post videos of me drinking in a vehicle. others can do as they please. just doesnt seem smart

Thats f'in dumb. I'm borderline non functioning alcoholic and even I can wait till the gun is hung up.

"Under the influence" means a blood/alcohol level of 0.08% OR if the alcohol impairs you in any way. 1 or 2 beers is not going to impair a Southern Louisianan. I'm pretty sure when you ask for "water" at a restaurant down there, they bring you a cold brew.
I think the same law applies in WA where you can drink and hunt as long as you are not "under the influence," but I could be easily wrong on that one...

My rule for me and anyone I hunt with is alcohol comes out only after firearms are put away.
-
Depends on when the test was done. If it was done more than two hours after the activity (hunting), any in other cases a result greater than 0.0 can be used as evidence that the person was above 0.08 at the time of the infraction. RCW 46.61.502(4)(a).
Either way, drinking and guns don't belong together. This comes from a guy that enjoys his libations, just never while the guns are out.

I’d enjoy a duck hunt with a bunch of happy Cajuns
Looks like a good time
Yes they should have waited on the beers until after noontime
I’ll give you that
But thinking about some of the trigger happy uptight dbags I’ve encountered, I’ll take the happy Cajuns who drank a couple of beers any day.
And no I don’t hit the booze until we are done for the day either

In the state of Louisiana it is not illegal to consume alcoholic beverages while shooting a firearm. However it is illegal to be intoxicated - drunk while shooting a firearm. Since it is not illegal it is a matter of preference. It is smart maybe not? However, the guys I hunt with are experienced hunters and consumers while hunting. We have been doing this a long time and its a lot of fun. Different strokes different folks.
Here where I live bars are open 24 hours a day seven days a week. If you can't moderate your drinking its not a good place to live. I would suggest 75% of the blinds here have drinking going on, it is a way of life down here. What we do is just another day.
Despite the drinking I hope you all enjoyed the duck hunting and being outdoors part of the video. We are lucky to be a part of the Mississippi River delta, truly a sportsman's paradise.
Happy Hunting

Different culture for sure.
As I recall, you can get a margarita at drive thru stands. That really shocked me.
I didn't see any unsafe behavior.
I did see a lot of ducks dying and one pissed off hunting partner, LOL.
Good quality video.

I feel like all this is is some guy from LA using any hunting site he can find to try and build his YouTube subscriber base.
While I'm sure the average person from LA might not be offended by this, there is an overwhelming majority in our state that would. I think we're better off without this kind of content on Hunt-Wa.

I didn’t know grown men kept track of their you tube followers lmao. That thought never crossed my mind but you are probably right.

Of course they do. Steven Rinella, Randy Newberg and the Eastman's are a few that make a substantial amount of income from YouTube.

When you are posting across the country in a WA specific forum and the posts are almost exclusively promoting videos it does seem that way. YouTube is big business, in addition to making money on videos one can get a bunch of free stuff like ammo, shotguns, decoys, guided hunts, basically it's an advertising method similar to TV but much less expensive and targeted.
I wouldn't be surprised if posters like this were at least required to be site sponsors, they are here to exclusively sell something just in a different way.

This law is written to prosecute people who were driving drunk. Not people who were drinking responsibly. For example, if a person saw someone swerving on the road driving drunk and called the cops, but the cops didn't find the perp till 2 hours later, then they would use this law.

Nobody would dispute that hunting while under the influence is a no no and illegal. Drinking responsibly and hunting is still legal.
Hey OP, how many hunts have you done here in Washington?
-
I feel this is wrong and sends the wrong message to just about everyone. The OP's profile shows that he is a member of Ducks Unlimited. How do you suppose DU would feel about this post? I think the mods should remove this post.

Goodness gracious!
Did they do anything dangerous? Did they make any bad moves or swings with their guns?
When are we all gonna stand up for what we believe in?
Great video Delta Duckman. Merry Christmas!

I’ll stand up for my gun rights and my drinking rights any day. When I’m standing I’ll be holding either my old fashioned or my firearm.
But not both.

Classy wouldn’t be classy if we didn’t have unclassy

I won’t judge.
-
I'm not going to look through a Washingtonian lens and judge how things are done in a free state, if its legal, if it's ethical..
then I'm glad to see into a different culture

Is it dangerous??? What did hunters Ed teach you about alcohol and firearms?? Pretty sure that rule is for a reason. I guess it comes down to do you want to promote safe and responsible hunting and firearms use or not?

Respectfully, you're headed down a slippery slope.
They weren't impaired, and weapon control was always good.
You might choose not to do it, and that is your right.
But he's not doing anything illegal, and they were safe.
Hunters condemning other hunters who are hunting legally usually doesn't end well.

I’m sorry Dan-o. I get what you are saying. I’m not calling for consequences. I’m asking what does hunters Ed teach? Is this something that should be promoted?? Putting up videos showing people drinking and hunting isn’t exactly a good idea. Again is this something that any responsible firearms trainer or hunters Ed educator would agree with???? Should we as hunters then not just turn a blind eye it promote that behavior?? Legality and being a good or right thing to do don’t always go hand in hand. That’s all I’m saying. Whatever happens happens. I’m not going to be upset either way.
-
I'm not sure many would agree that shooting while drinking is safe. You also don't have to be at 0.08 to be under the influence. That's the legal definition for the acceptable level of impairment to drive a vehicle, if you are over that you are assumed to be impaired. You can still get a DUI if you are under 0.08 if it can be proven you are impaired.
You can say you believe some level of alcohol influence is acceptable to handle firearms, but I don't agree that 1,2,3 or however many drinks has no influence on someone at all.
Here is what LA says directly from their hunter safety rules, it's Commandment #10:
Avoid alcoholic beverages before or during shooting. Also avoid mind- or behavior-altering medicines or drugs.
-
Looks like they're drinking domestics, I would have to drink a 12 pack of those just to get a buzz. If anything they are staying nice and hydrated to stay more focused on their shooting. I don't have a problem with anything I saw especially if its legal.

Looks like some good fun to me !! I would love to smack some quacks with them boys
