What do you all use to keep track of your pointers in the brush?
I’ve seen people using beeper collars or bells
Thanks in advance

GPS. Silence equals more birds in the bag IMO.

I find the bells to be fairly annoying after a while, plus they get plugged up in the snow. Beepers are nice, but sometimes they echo so much it's hard to tell exactly where your dog is if they're quite a ways away. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. I've gone to the Alpha GPS unit. Shows exactly where my dog is and vibrates if she goes on point. Has adjustable vibrate, tone and shock. I don't make any sounds at all after leaving my truck to start a bird hunt, or during the hunt. Between the use of hand signals and the collar we're good to go. Also, one of the reasons I went to this type of collar is because my dog (5 year old female GWP) is deaf, which throws another factor into the mix. The system is a bit spendy, but well worth it in my opinion. I've had too many situations where a pheasant will take off in the sagebrush and run out of sight with the dog close behind!

Thanks guys

I hunted some with a real quiet guy named Shannon.

Nothing like a guy with the phone going off and a little screaming at the dog. Makes for such a nice day in the field. Solo is where it's at as you well know.

I use the SportDOG brand upland hunter collar with my dogs and love it. I can turn the beeper off and just hit the locator button for one loud beep whenever I need to know where they are but I usually just run the beeper. My favorite part is the feature where it starts beeping faster when they’re on point. One of my dogs ranges a little further than I like and I’ve gotten on quite a few quail that I probably would have never known she pointed without the beeper.

Beep on command. Beep on point. Late season roosters are wily. Being as quiet as possible is important.

Thank you for your input on this on command beeper or when pointing sounds good

We ran two dogs, two collars set up with different sounds. Tried the ‘beep on point’ thing and switched to ‘on demand’ very quickly and never went back. majority of the time I know where the dog is and don’t want the noise. Garmin for us, though have used others (Tri Tronics, Sport Dog) with success.
Just had one (Garmin) stolen a couple weeks ago along with a Stihl 120 electric chain saw and some other stuff when someone broke into our Travel Trailer.

I still run a bell. Dad did it and I suppose it still works great. I only use it for quail. I can see my dog while long legging chukar. Never seemed to blow out a covey.
