Check out this link for the biggest telephoto Canon has ever made: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800622963-USE/Canon_2527A001_Super_Telephoto_1200mm_f_5_6L.html#specifications
Ha! Only problem is, it's about $119,500 over many of our lens budgets - and that's for a used model! And we'd need a sherpa to caddy it around for us. And Pope Shawn wouldn't be able to get it 10 miles off the road up into the high country to use it on his trophy rams.
Not sure what tripod would be up to the task. It would be sweet, though.

I think they only made 10 of those lenses. Those are great. I'll take the small brother though, the 800mm f5.6. I've heard it's actually portable about like the 500mm f4...

HOLY MOLY

What the hell is he trying to take pictures of? The North Korean missile launch :chuckle:
Sorry my bad

Yes, Shawn - a good friend of mine from the Seattle area has had the 800 for about 6 months now. We shoot together sometimes, so I've handled it and seen it in action. It is actually rather light and compact, at least compared to my 400 and to the 600f4. And AF even works with a 1.4tc on his 5DMarkII body with no problems. It is a very helpful lens to have. With the 1.4 on his 40D it brings 'em in real close.

Now thats some funny chit right there :chuckle:
-
buy a $120,000 lens......get a free kodak fishing vest :whoo:
-
This is funnier than letterman.....ok except for the dieing dog.
-
it seems odd to me as a not so seasoned photographer that the dude taking the photo of the guy shooting the $120k lense couldn't use a flash to light up the guys face a little. stuck in the shadows...rookie mistake.

For me the ultimate wildlife lens is the Canon 400mm f/4 IS DO
-
I think a Jeep would make a good tripod for that thing... You wouldn't need to leave the road to get pics of a gnat on a _________'s _______ from two miles away. (Use your imagination with the blanks!) :chuckle:

36 pounds..........after carrying the 12 pounder around. WOW I was up in a tree last night trying to freehand it and it about killed me. I guess I wouldn't be in the tree with this one though. LOL
-
Man, I would get tired of carrying my 400mm f2.8 around the field while shooting college football let alone out hiking the hills with one. I respect you strong armed guys Tom and Bone. I would love to see your face if you did a side by side comparison with the 400mm DO...lol. :chuckle:
-
just curious.....what camera are you putting these lens' on?
-
Canon 40D for Pope and I. I believe Tom shoots a different model.
-
Canon 20D for me Slider and M-Ray
-
they both seem to be about the same price range.....is there a big difference.
i know squat about cameras, but would love to learn to take pictures like the ones you guys are posting on here....awesome.
is there somewhere one could learn without bugging the *censored* out of you guys? :chuckle:

:yeah:
Everyone has helped me out a ton.
I also volunteer to be the photographer at every birthday party, baby dedication, sunday school activity, Hooters Swimsuit Contest...whatever I can find. I have really noticed a big difference in my first photos to my recent ones at these activities. Even though the quality is nowhere near what these pros and semipros are putting up there, it is improving over time.

after looking at those cameras online, i bout have to sell my wifes rig to get one. :chuckle: :chuckle:
