Muddy cams are made by stealth cam. If you buy a muddy cell cam, you use the stealth cam app. All cheap cams can have issues, Muddy cams are no more or less likely to.
-
I buy refurbished Stealth Cams on Camofire for $30/ea all the time and they kick butt.
Trail Cam Tuesday!

There’s nothing more expensive then a cheap cam.
-they rarely last more than a year
-battery life sucks
-they corrupted SD cards
-take horrible pictures
-terrible sensitivity
I bought three cheapies a couple of years ago. They all don’t work anymore and two corrupted SD cards. I’m in the hole (+batteries) $150. Not to mention marginal performance. At the same time I bought a high end Browning at the same cost of three discount cams. It takes great pictures, batteries last almost a year, 32mb card fills up before batteries are dead, and it still works. The way I see it it cost me $300. Buy once cry once. But I do have three decoy cams now?

I've had this experience when I've used off brand Amazon cams. Stealth Cam, Bushnell, and Moultrie cams have never let me down. Stealth Cam has always been the bang for the buck cam for me.
Pretty sure Muddy is a china POS. Never used them because you can get name brand for the same price or slightly more. :twocents:

Is a 1 second trigger speed normal? I have a number of cheap amazon cameras I've run the last few years, which have generally been pretty good, and noticed that a fair number of the pictures/videos are of the back end of the animal trotting past. Not sure if those had trigger speeds slower or faster than a second, though...

:yeah:
Bought two Tasco cams at Walmart like 5 years ago. still going strong. Not gonna frame any of those pics anyway, so they work just fine for my purposes... :dunno: My other two cameras are re-furbs off Camofire. Cost about the same. I have to wire one shut now, the clips broke off. Not the camera's fault though. A bear ate it... :chuckle:

I don't know much about trigger speeds but can sometime fix this problem by camera locations set up. Have it look more down the trail rather than straight across the trail.

Sorry guys ......
I do realize cheap cams are not for everybody.
And there is only a handful of cams made in the USA.
There about like rifles scopes, even assembled here ,most parts are from China.
I'm not gonna say these are junk before trying it out.
But will say next time I'll keep my link to myself next time.
Good day all.

Ya I mean I know some people love the higher end stuff.
But for a guy just starting out with trail cams.
It's a pretty good deal to get started.
Showed a guy last week about it.
Here he has got feeder ,tree stand, all this stuff, and no trail cam. So I showed him, sent him a link by text.
He always talks I got this buck or that buck ,I'm like man you got to put a cam out . How do you know you don't have a few giants in there that show at nite when your not watching it.
He said he was gonna get one.
Hope the link helps somebody get started or maybe replace a stolen one,or whatever the case may be.

I appreciate the link.

Everything you wrote couldn’t be more opposite. I’ll never buy expensive cams again. I’ve been running cams since the 35mm cam days. One thing I’ve learned electronics in the elements have a life and it doesn’t matter how much you spend. I have some $35-$50 cams that have never done what you wrote above, left some out a year snd still taking pics when I retrieve them. What I don’t worry about is if they break , bear eats them or someone steals them cause they were cheap. One of the worst cold weather cams I ever owned was a “high end” at the time $250 cam. Pos. Most don’t even test to see how they perform in sub 30 deg weather on deer size animals. You might be surprised at results
-
I haven't bought any cheap ones yet. But I buy higher end cameras and have had results all over the board.
1. Moultrie. Batteries only lasted 2 weeks a shot
2. Stealth cam pretty expensive one. Camera would detect on setup. After leaving sensor would not detect any animals or even you upon returning. Kept reseting and trying again. Same results
3. Multiple bushnell trophies had fire issues and melted wiring. Few that did last worked great for many years.
4. Browning. 2nd time putting one out camera malfunctioned and wouldn't turn back on. 2nd camera had issues within first year of not wanting to turn back on too. Both no good anymore. 3rd camera functions great.
5. Cuddybacks. For the most part bulletproof. Only one out of 4 had shutter issues causing pink daytime pics but to this day works great. All have functioned flawless for years. Although one got stolen not this season but last season in pierce county during a late muzzly/archery season. So big loss on cost.
But due to price, theft, reliability issues, etc I think I am ready to try my chances on some of the cheaper ones. The specs on some of the cameras on amazon are more less the same of all the name brand.
-
I’ve had a couple of the muddy cams out since October. I typically run the cheap stealth cams. The controls on the muddy and the stealth cam are almost identical. I would not be surprised if the same Chinese kids are building both brands. The trigger is a little slow on them but they get the job done. Battery life seems on par with the stealth cams. Definitely worth the $30.

I've told a lot people about them.
There gonna run out soon I'm sure.

BAM!!!!!
Just showed up ,gonna be trying these bad boys out.

There's a 3 pack of StealthCam BT14's on sale at North 40 for $100. Not bad either.
-
I've been running cams for 5 years now on both sides of the mountains. If I have learned anything its that every individual camera is different. I've run primos, stealth, bushnell, (30$ - 75$).
Problems:
-moisture
-corrupt SDs
-bears
Its just part of the game. I wont take the plunge on expensive cameras because I like to shotgun them out there. Ill have 3 cameras all within a football field size spot just to see whats around. If one malfunctions I take it down and replace it with one I have tested at home. Its a miracle when they last through the winter. Havent had a problem with battery life yet unless wind is involved. Little thing im trying is putting one of those moisture absorbing packets inside the camera to draw moisture away from the batteries, and also taping around the seals.
I ordered my father in law 2 of these muddy cams. If they dont work out Ill try another brand. the more cams out there the better, I like seeing the pictures, especially those backcountry ones.
-
Like said ,buy if you like cheap cams.
If you don't like cheap cams ,or already have enough that's great too.
I got mine ,so I'm not worried .Got a few friends that said there's are gonna show up soon.
Everybody Have a
Merry Christmas.

So this year in going to start transferring them from my phone to another SD when I get home.

I've started that too ,I'll copy that one, that one, that one, rest are deleted.
You can get a SD card reader for your phone in Amazon for 5-10 dollars ,some older phones can't read SD but most new phones can.

I know that the stealth cam browtines wont fit in any of the lock boxes. I have contacted stealth cam and a couple other companies that make lock boxes. They are a new model so no lock boxes for them yet.
The muddy cams I am not 100% sure. But I think they are the 100 model and I know camlockbox.com has a muddy model 100 lock box so it might work.

I really don't know . I do have one stealth cam ,but it's out in the woods in a potential hunting spot for next year.
So I really can't say ,but it does look similar to the stealth cam I have. But I can't say positive for sure.
All the lock boxes I have are homemade ones, with my harbor freight welder.
I've been in the process of making some lock boxes soon, and skull hookers I make too.

I have ordered 2 of the Muddy 3 packs and haven't had any issues with any of the cameras. Ran them all year and they are just what you should expect a cheap trail cam to be. They take decent pics day and night and if they get stolen or destroyed you are not out much. Here is a few of the pics from this year.

Thats exactly what I thought. The companies about page had nothing to do with outdoor related stuff. In fact one website was talking about fabrics, one was talking about work out exercise equipment. And like you pointed out everything seemed like copy and paste. Thanks for verifying. I noticed this on Amazon too about copy and paste with info and pics from many cameras.

Update. I have several of these up right now on my property. One had water get in the door and freeze during the last storm. The SD card was frozen inside and I was sure it was done for. Brought it inside and warmed it up and the darned thing still works just fine. I watch Midway as they often have 3packs of these on sale. Probably gonna buy a few more now.
