Washingtonians for Wildlife Conservation & Hunters Heritage Council is supporting the Inland Northwest Wildlife Councils petition to remove the date from the spring bear season. This structural change solves the problems most of us are have been frustrated by. It eliminates the ability of animal rights organizations from suing to halt the season because of SEPA/NEPA review. That review is what caused the delay of adopting all rule changes. The delay and re-vote masked the true intent of the animal rights activists which was to overturn the earlier vote on the spring bear season. Eliminating the date also shifts the burden of the vote. Instead of having to vote to pass the whole spring bear season, the vote would be to accept changes to it. Many sportsmen believed that the vote over spring bear was about the reduction of Long Beach unit permits, from 10 to 6. Lastly this eliminates the ability to lose the whole season to a tie vote on the commission.
The CALL TO ACTION.
1 Send a message to the Commission stating that You support the Inland Northwest Councils petition to remove the date from the spring bear season. Send a copy of the letter attached to your comments.
2 Share this Attached letter with your Sportsmen /Shooting Club. Have them sign on and send in the letter to the Commission in support

Done, added some more of my personal thoughts as well.

Great to here WWC!
:bumpin:

Thank you W4WC
Hoping everyone here on Hunt-WA can contact the Commission and share the reasons why the petition should be supported.

💯 good work. I shared on Instagram, everyone else should do the same. We must maintain pressure until Jan 21st for the meeting. I think we have a good chance being heard since we now have 4 in favor and 3 against.

Here's another handy way to help apply pressure on WDFW's Commission to revisit their post-Koontz decision for the 2022 WA Spring Bear Hunt season.

Feel free to spread the word and this link to your fellow hunters and concerned citizens.
Thank you!

I’m not afraid to ask.
What are you talkin about Willis??
Remove the date? Like spring bear season is just an additional bear tag?
There’d have to be dates of some sort 1/1-12/31??
Me confused by politician talk and numbers…???

BHA and Wenatchee sportsmen's association are also signed on as well. I read the petition, it's a pretty simple but elegant fix. The season would always exist but the tags, units and exact dates would still be changeable. The supporting argument is pretty good too.
Instead of being "2021 2022 (etc) Spring bear season" in the title, it would just be spring bear. That way the year, and thus the entire season doesn't have to be a subject of debate every year

:yeah:
This is the way I understand it as well. It accepts the status quo and just the changes require a vote.

But if they vote to issue no permits, they can make regulations whatever. Yes I agree the vote to shutdown the season would be gone. Number of permits, length of season, ect ,would always be up for debate.

I think the issue becomes what the public comment/information becomes. Many folks assumed it was only the reduction of 4 permits on the coast. The disclosure for ending the season for public comment should have to be different.

Bump.
Please share the info to contact the commission, gov and natural resource committee on your social media. We must get every single one of you possible to make your voice heard, PRIOR to the Jan 21st meeting. The antis now have word of the vacancies and are actively working to sway the commission, etc in the other direction.

Done and done. Was pretty annoyed with WDFW commission after looking forward to applying for Spring Bear and finding out the season is not approved. Hopefully we get something moving for us.
