It’s a slow start just a lot of snow and bad roads , started out setting a couple cat cages and went to one ridge and got 4 marten traps set and while snowshoeing ack out there was marten tracks in mine and my 2nd box had a mature male in it still kicking ! And a two day check I picked up another big male but everything was buried in snow so it was a dig out day and I got 12 boxes out now . We will see how this year goes

Honestly my favorite thread is when you post up about the marten. Wish you would take along a go pro and make some videos, YouTube marten trapping videos are lacking
-
Anyone no how to spin the pics ?
-
Looking forward to following along with your thread this year!
-
Good start Jake; Keep um coming.
Happy New Year
JC :salute:

I rarely comment, but always follow....
Thanks.
Kind of amazing that you caught the first one so quickly.

Nice I love the adventure of snow trapping. I wish we had Marten in my area

Very cool
Didn’t even know we had em

Looks like a great sport that I wish I'd started at a younger age.

There’s a guy in the Northwest Territories that has a YouTube channel that’s amazing, just can’t remember his name.
Thanks for posting Jakeland.👍

Was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how the trapping was going. Best of luck to you this season...stay safe

Get em buddy. Used to love trapping Marten in Montana, back in the day. Honestly, I think my favorite was mink. Just something about those little devils.
-
Thanks guys ! My sets are above 2400 ft elevation and of course beaver for bait
Can anyone spin the pics ?
-
I got ya on the spin

Awesome, been wondering how you have been with all this snow. You still able to get around ok?

no it’s bad when it’s all snowshoe travel ! Hip deep with them on and with about 9+ miles it feels like hell

I would NOT be able to run that check. Stay safe, I've heard the avalanche danger is pretty high in the backcountry.
-
Ya it’s getting deep and sluffy snow hoping it compacts soon
-
Jake,
They "DOT" said that they will have Stevens opened up by some time Wednesday afternoon. That might help you.
Well it will get you there closer.
-
Well one of the sketchiest checks in a long time , lost 4 boxes to avalanches and it was a tough one but got 2 marten and a weasel

More pics

Nice job 👍 have you tried otter for bait? I’m thinking more for bobcat than martens. Anyways thanks for posting!

I have actually tried otter for skunk bait when I was in a pinch for bait. Not trying that again!

Thanks for the good memories! My grandfather set up a 'rat trap' trap line for me to 'run'. We actually caught 2 ermine and he showed me how to skin them and then stretched them inside out over a paint stir stick. I took them home and they stunk up the back porch for years before my mom finally got rid of them. I was 5yo :)
-
Summertime hike and look for the other boxes??
-
Caught 3 marten today but a fox ended following the whole line and ate one the trap just some hair left and ended breaking the chain with a marten in it and spent 2 hours trying to find it but no luck sooo just one to put up tonight
-
Dang that’s too bad on the lost marten! Are you going to get a cage out for the fox?
-
Put some bait out today to get him onto that then when he’s hitting it constantly I’ll put a cage there
-
Good luck on the fox, photos soon :)
-
Just one more on todays check going to pull 2 of the lines and start 2 more this weekend
-
Today was a 3 marten day after a whole week of nothing
-
.
-
Awesome. How late will you keep those lines running?
-
Marten trapping is a blast. Keep up the good work

Very nice! What’s the goal for this year?
-
The goal is 40 so I’m close to halfway, not going to get to 40 but I’ll give it hell
-
That’s awesome, good luck the rest of the year. You’ve sure got the marten figured out!
-
Cluttered? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
One more tonight , it’s been a tough season so far and it’s time to concentrate on some cats so we will see what happens here soon as I might just pull all the marten sets
-
Cluttered? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Apparently Jake has a very different definition of "cluttered" than we do!!
-
He'd probably have a stroke if he set foot in my barn.
-
Jake,
Can you post some pictures of your boxes? Specifically how you are mounting the koros to the box. I am not entirely satisfied with the various ways I have been doing it.
-
Thanks for the pictures and description, very clear.
-
Pulled 2 lines today and added another line that I haven’t trapped in a few years
Got one more today on a line I pulled
-
Mixed bag
-
:yike:
-
Nice job!!!
-
Starting to wrap the season up pulled 2 long lines today and got 2 more marten, 17 more boxes to pull tomorrow
-
Great job! I just passed my exam and will start trapping next week. Do you have the specs of the box build? would like to duplicate if possible
-
Ended my mountain line with #25
-
Nicely done
-
 Very nice.

Very nice Jakeland and looks like an overall successful season. At least you didn't have 2 women spraying your traps
