I'm listening to the cougar science WDFW commission meeting.
What can I/we do to remove Lorna Smith from the commission or move her to resign? Something in addition to asking the Senate not to confirm, and in addition to emailing the commission?
-
When I wrote to Senate NR committee and WDFW commission I said she votes by emotion and not science. Not sure if anyone is listening but the science is there.
-
Probably not a whole lot we can do except keep sending emails and calling Senate NR Committee members and urging a no vote or keep showing up to meetings and commenting to show hunter support and with any luck she'll exit like the last guy
-
I suggest she received a bunch of emails. Maybe someone could find her commission email address and post it.

Do they have an official email, or just their personal one?
It’s not like they have to answer to us.🤣

Oh this could get interesting.😉
I’ll definitely send her an email she won’t forget and I’ll use no cuss words, 30 years of military service really expands one ability to ream someone out easily.🇺🇸⚓️🤣

I would refrain from any unprofessional behavior no matter how much dislike folks have for lorna smith. Bullying her will only galvanize anti's and weaken hunter voices where they inevitably lump all opposition to her/her positions as nothing more than a bunch of antagonists.
Reasoned/supported statements opposing her nomination or her positions on issues emailed to Gov staff and Senators is probably a better use of time/energy.
-
Yes, let's please keep it civil. And let's point to tangible reasons. For instance, I don't know if they keep records of such things but she basically came up with her own way of interpreting harvest statistics at the online meeting with the big 4-4 vote. I'm drawing a blank on the exact thing she said, but it was something like interpreting the large demand for the spring bear hunt as an indication of how easy they were to kill then (rather, than, you know, an indication of how many of us are jonesing for big game hunting in the spring). Anyway, it was something totally against what WDFW staff (or any wildlife scientist anywhere) would have said. And conveniently in support of her position. I personally have no problems that they added bios onto the commission - at least they're trained to be somewhat objective. My biggest objection are people willing to make up stuff to support a pre-decided position.

I really have to warn folks about how, where and what you say about her that could be used against hunters. If you have to talk about her or to her please be professional.
I've already seen screen shots from this site of people saying things that don't make us look good to anyone. I can't stand most of her policy choices but we don't have to be the terrible people they accuse of us of being.
Just saying....most folks have a nuetral view of us and hunting, sounding like vicious rednecks doesn't help. And I promise and can prove that the anti's are watching what we say, even on here. She's already claiming she's a victim, don't give her the satisfaction or damage the hunting image publicly
-
I really don't see any chance to remove her. Her backers have the ear of the Chair of the Senate Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources and Parks Commitee. This is where her confirmation hearings will go. If there is a hearing, she will have the votes. If she doesn't have the votes no hearing will take place and she will continue to serve on an interim basis until the term is up.
Short of her committing a felony, we're stuck with her.
-
This is why Baker needs to go too.(edited, I confused Baker with Smith)
-
This is why she needs to go
That was baker not Smith. Baker usually votes against hunting as well.

Baker needs to go too .
Thanks Tbar for the correction

Taking on the role of the victim is part of the plan. She is merely taking one for the team, as to say. She will be coached to take on that role every time someone speaks against her. It wont be (in her opinion) because of her stand on an issue, but rather because those "attacking" her are doing so for other bigoted reasons. Connect the dots. :twocents:

What is Lorna Smith's actual county of residence? Originally the wdfw page said Jefferson county (port Townsend) then for several months it did not list a county of residence, and now it is back to Jefferson. Basic internet sleuthing has not revealed anything useful.
IF her country of residence changed to Thurston county (where Baker resides) she would be ineligible for the commission.
-
Perhaps taking a page from the Democrats playbook.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is calling on her supporters to confront Trump administration officials and staffers in public amid widespread backlash to the President’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal immigration.
“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up,” Waters told a crowd in California over the weekend. “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
-
A year ago it was Port Townsend

She probably found a crack house to but so she could change her residence of record.🤬
But hey we all need to write nice letters so she’ll quit.🤣

Of course as always the ones who are right have to take the moral high ground but yet the ones that are wrong can lie and use personal feelings instead of facts to make decisions and change or cancel seasons. Then sit there with their stupid smug smile and say yeah I did that, and with no recourse. These people drive me nuts. Makes no sense having anti-hunters who hate us on the board who creates the rules for us. If I just hate golf should I go get on the Board of Directors of the local golf course. Maybe make it illegal to golf on the weekends and in the afternoons. I will never understand someone who despises something but yet wants to immerse themselves right in the middle of it just so they can try to ruin it for everybody else too. If you don’t like hunting that’s fine get a new job and leave us alone. Let someone who knows hunting is a sound management tool and doesn’t hate us for the way we put food on the table, dress and raise our kids take the job. But I guess she’s not really out of the ordinary. She’s one of the women I warn my son about. Those who just enjoy conflict. They feed off of conflict. They have to have it or they just have no purpose in life if they’re not causing somebody trouble or forcing someone into seeing their way.

As others have stated, the best route is to contact all members of the Senate Natural Resources Committee and ask that they make a recommendation to the Senate to reject her nomination. Here is the current committees contact:

Its the only way in the whole wide world she can get attention.

@Bowlake
How do you see that vote going? I'm guessing there are at least 3 there that would hand pick her and probably satisfied with her performance. With 3 of 7 decided, you don't have to know much or do much in the political arena to understand the likelihood of confirmation. IF a hearing ever occurs she will be confirmed imho.

To be honest, I am not sure. I spoke with one member via email and got a response that he would likely make the recommendation to reject her. If I had to bet, I would guess that even if the committee made the rec to reject her, which is a long shot, that the senate would likely confirm her anyways. But, this is the only legal route that I am aware of to for citizens to provide input. I am sure that there are other ways that a commissioner can be removed for breaching duty or conflict of interest, but I am not aware of them.
