Any Ideas on stripping paint off a scope tube body? Ziess scope, krylon matte camo paint. Tried paint thinner and steel wool, very time consumeing. Any ideas? Thanks.
-
M.E.K. maybe :dunno:
-
Whats MEK?
-
Methyl Ethal Ketone a little bit goes a long way.
-
I used acetone to take the Krylon off my rifle barrel... poured a little on... let it sit for a minute... then rubbed it off with a rag.

thanks...i needed a cure for a stupid paint job.
-
that will work for non-catalized paint, if it dont, an aoutmotive paint store will have "aircraft stripper", use that, will eat it, i promise. DO NOT get it on your hands.
-
Will it eat the original coating off? I know ziess uses some pretty good stuff.
-
it will eat paint off a new car in under 10 minutes, kinda messy, so be carefull
-
unless it is powder coated, dont know about that

There are no stupid paint jobs... just ugly ones!
-
well ugly then.
-
stupid ugly paint job on a gun thats gonna become duracoat experiment #1.
:dunno:
-
One of the pards has a duracoat setup. If something doesn't workout, I'll have him spray it...
-
my neighbor wants to try it and i will provide the old savage as a blank canvas.
-
can u not use sandpaper?
-
Brake cleaner spray might work. I recently used it to remove a rattle can paint job from a mid-70's steel motorcycle gas tank. Scrubbed with a toothbrush while wet and got it all off without harming the original paint underneath the "custom" paint job.
-
Thanks for all the input gents, I'll try the easiest and go from there. I'll report back soon! Later
-
The easiest would be: send it to me... and buy a new one. Somehow I don't think you're going that route though...

Wet a rag with laquer thinner and loosely wrap part of the scope at a time, it will soften then wipe it with a fresh wetted rag to finish Mark
