just curious to know how many people have ever gotten a banded duck in washington??? suppose i should add a poll to this but i dont know how
-
I've shot a banded Mallard and a banded Ruddy Duck. Also a couple of banded snow geese. All over on the wet side. I've got some friends who hunt the pot holes who shoot banded ducks all the time.

2 years ago when i was still living in washington i spent the whole winter laid off and did nothing but duck hunting i took about 6 people out on different days and each of them killed banded mallards ive yet to get my first banded duck though i guess its just luck i hear people say they are looking for bands but no one ive ever known has been that picky to look for a band before they shoot just lucky i guess

I've gotten 5 bands 4 on mallards 1 on a goose that also had a neck collar coolest thing in my 15 years duck hunting.
-
haven't really had a chance to do much hunting for the last 5yrs or so since work started, but i hunted a lot during college when i was in ellensburg and only ended up with one band and i dont think any of my buddies have any and they hunt ducks quite a bit.....on the wet side.

About a dozen geese, but only two ducks - a mallard hen and a pintail drake out of about 35 years of avid hunting.

Personally, I've taken five: two gadwall hens (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi145.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr209%2FHereDuckyDucky%2FIMG_2647.jpg&hash=d12f7eb602906b10dcbdf40a9824c948fd5c55e0) , one redhead drake (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi145.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr209%2FHereDuckyDucky%2Fimg_2655.jpg&hash=3e584ca5b94f29907b724f14aad873829995ae1c), one goldeneye drake, and one ringneck drake (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi145.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr209%2FHereDuckyDucky%2FIMG_1838.jpg&hash=2e009383d17205d00beb373cc531aa167d29266c).
I've been the hunting partner for another three: two mallards (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi145.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr209%2FHereDuckyDucky%2Fjustafew.jpg&hash=a36cff8d26b15d02fc40509b0ffe81426588b64c) and one redhead (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi145.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr209%2FHereDuckyDucky%2FRichardwithsomeredheadbling.jpg&hash=2eaff046658d75baf7dea0ffc800c14d701cd257).

08/09 Season "Waterfowl Jewelry"

1 Goose,2 Mallards,1 Pintail,2 Ringneck Ducks for me.
-
All right, I'll bite.
What is so special about the bands?
:dunno:
-
Two things, you can report their band number and figure out where they were banded at, and second, its a pride thing. More bands you have around your lanyard the better i guess...
-
I shoot about 1 per 80 mallards on average. Totally depends on the area you hunt and the local banding + migratory paths from AB

It's fun, really adds a little something extra like passing up small bucks waiting for that special one... 4 of my 6 bands this season came off birds that I spotted the bands on before shooting. And yes, I had witnesses!

one of my clients shot a double banded harli this season.
-
I've been hunting around thurston county for 10 plus years and my partners and i have never taken a banded bird. I shot our first pintail this last season. mostly mallards and widgeon
-
I've shot two banded wood ducks. The first was a drake in '96. When I sent the numbers in they said it was from Nampa, Idaho. The second was a hen in '08 and it came from Harrah, WA. I've been duck hunting since 1990. My dad has been hunting ducks since the mid sixties and has never shot a banded duck.
-
Nice Harli's!! What does the blue band signify?
I was fortunate enough to take a double banded harly in 2006 (yellow-green band). I was told the color represents the region where the bird was banded, is this true?

I have been collecting duck and goose bands for 51 years. I have a few widgeon and pintail from the west side when I used to live over there. The rest are from the Tri cities area. This picture is from the last day of the season this past season. I shot a limit of ducks and this one gadwall was one of the most beautiful ducks I have taken. I had him mounted.
