This is one of the reasons I’m switching to mostly bird hunting.
It's not just point creep for me. The "good" hunts are overhyped. I have had the best success on "marginal" hunts.

I tend to agree with you. Cost is another big reason for me.

I think there is a huge bubble of guys with 13 pts. I think that is when they changed the appl process so you could apply for 3 species instead of only one so a bunch of guys jumped in. I'm also in this group for Elk/Antelope. There's always the bonus point draw.

I am planning to put in. Just waiting a few more days. Your hunting license is good for 365 days & if you time it right you only need to buy a hunting license every other yr. If you get lucky & draw, you will need to have a hunting license for the current yr though.Won’t work this time around. They’re moving the draw to April/May next year.
I think there is a huge bubble of guys with 13 pts. I think that is when they changed the appl process so you could apply for 3 species instead of only one so a bunch of guys jumped in. I'm also in this group for Elk/Antelope. There's always the bonus point draw.

Getting drawn in Utah is like a lightning strike or maybe a July snow storm in Phoenix. In as well but zero expectations! Utah is a true lotto.
The creep is real. Put in for hunts that take 2 or 3 points less to draw than last year and you might have a chance.

Nope, it will probably make some double down as they are thinking the same way you are. The number of hunters is up across the west and point creep will continue this year. Most of us that are applying for these hunts aren't living paycheck to paycheck, so I think it will have little to no impact on the number of people who apply. :twocents:

Has the economy went south? I made more money through the bs COVID stuff last year than I've ever made. With all the free government handouts, I don't think anyone (outside of landlords and business owners) has really been hurt in the pocketbook yet. Give it a few more months for inflation to catch up (should really start to hurt after app season) and I bet people start to feel it. From the guys I know that hunt, everyone seems to be all in even though I hope you're right.

funny, swing for the fences LOL, swinging is still better odds even if there is one awesome bull tag and a random permit with 1 to 750 odds. Still better than 20 pts in Washington. I drew a unit 27 Arizona muzz bull tag with a random odds draw. You can't win if you don't play, but playing is getting really hard these days :)
Ive drawn 3 quality elk tags in WA and none in UT. I have better odds in WA than UT

Stock markets are down close to or over 10% so far this year. People aren't going back to jobs they quit because of covid and unemployment benefits have ran out. Read an article the other day that most of the people that haven't returned to work are mostly women and they have no plans of returning back to work. So that's going to cause a lot of family's going from 2 incomes to 1. Gas prices are getting bad and are only going to continue to get worse. BBB sounds like it's dead so no more covid checks coming. And inflation is driving the price of a lot of things up. Maybe it will be a couple more months before people really feel it but I know a few guys that are already not planning to go out of state this year because of what they think gas prices will be by this fall.Anybody think there is a possibility the current state of the economy lessens demand? I cant find my draw results and didnt get any email? when I go to drawing history there is nothing for 2022? I applied and have my receipt and checked my card and got billed. So doesn't look like I was even in draw? Does everyone else's draw history show 2022 apps in there?Same boat here
