Title: First CR Troll
Post by: Blacklab on March 30, 2022, 02:53:08 PM
Went after the Springer solo this morning. Pretty excited hoping to hook up. Got all the ducks in a row. Started the down hill troll. 5 Mins into it bam! Rippen line like nobodies business. Crabbed the rod realized SNAG!!!! After a few mins of fighting a lost cause. I cut my line :'(. Went back to the top and started with my second rod. 5 hrs later BLANKED. Great day for sure just no springer love :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

At first when I read the title, I thought this was a thread about my ex-wife  :yike:

A day fishing is still better than a day working, and until you figured out what was happening, sounds like it was pretty exciting for a bit as well!

I got to Cathlamet last Friday, went fishing Sat., Sun, Mon., Tue, and today and not a bite yet. :bash: Today my brother was with me and nailed a native so that was all for not. Tons of sea lions. Can't even enjoy having a fish on without having to worry about the lions grabbing. Used to be fun just fighting a nice fish but not anymore, it's horse 'em in. Talked to a guy yesterday, first timer down here and him and his wife had a legal one to the boat and a sea lion got it right next to the boat. There's been a few caught but it's nothing to write home about.

‘If’ they opened Sea Lions and Seals up for hunting, I wonder how many here would hunt them? I wonder if the tribes would?
It is disheartening to watch the Ballard locks fish viewing station with all of them there, and seeing many of the fish come through with one bite taken out that will probably will not survive.

Cut plug green label herring behind triangle flasher some reports of people using whole red label with a bend in it to get them to spin right

I was under the impression, the tribes can hunt them, they just don't for some reason  :dunno:

My favorite spring king set up.is a triangle flasher in green and chrome, to a 42" leader with a cut plug orange or red label herring rigged to spin tight the tighter the better. I run my lead on a dropper so I can feel the bottom. Every couple minutes I drop down until I feel it bounce then up a crank or two.

Like others have said, tight spinning cut plug 42-60" behind a triangle flasher. I''ll add a 12" dropper (exactly) to an 8oz lead. Dredge the bottom! Your rod tip should be tapping eractically and constantly. Go as slow as you can while maintaining control over the current.
I spent past weekend trolling w/out a bite. Gonna spend my time on the hook letting them come to me this weekend!...if they do? :dunno:

Good luck out there!

Ashquack that’s pretty close to what I do. About 10” dropper 30” leader with inlines. Might go with the 360 next trip.

What if you can work while fishing? That’s the best of both worlds!!!
