Leaving Wednesday for Conc area...specifically Blue Lake. Has anyone been fishing Blue? Last three years in a row were the first hot weekends of the year and the snow melt flooded everything and turned the fishing OFF! Hoping for some milder weather to go sit in the tube and twitch the chrono's.....
Anyone been up there? Any sizes / colors hotter than others?
-
The weathers been real nice up there I have heard. I also heard that the fishing has been great. If ya run into a Dept of Fish and Game guy named Justin with a big beard...tell him hi, he's my buddy from high school, one of the nicest guys you'll meet.
Good luck, looking forward to some pics...

Troll a big leech with a bead head, darker the pattern the murkier the water for some fresh ones that aren't spawning. I've caught a couple leviathons doing that. Haven't been there yet this spring. I was seriously thinking about it though. Its just a long drive.
-
I wondered about that. There is some absolute muley country around there. My inlaws have a house on Wannacut.
(are we talking the same blue lake, or is there another one closer to Conc.....)
-
Shoot man theres waaay too many blue lakes!!! One in oroville the one in sinlahekin and the one up the lime belt!!!
The one in oroville has been producing some big spawning cutthroats......thats all I know
-
are they really spawning though? they are lahontans right?
-
Lahontans should be done by now though.

Yes and Yes
They spawn in the spring........Start spawning sometime in april i believe?
-

tail end buddy was up there like a week ago and they were still going
-
yeah but they're not actually spawning. they just think they are. they're sterile.
-
I used to go to Lenore several times every year, that was a kick. I seem to remember them starting in mid to late March and being done by the end of April, I'm getting older though
-
Ive caught the cuthroats in omak lake that still spawning a bit in the beginning of june

really?
-
yep...really.
the only place i've ever seen them or caught them is at lenore. there's a little stream that flows into the lake that the fish stack up in every spring...they do everything except lay eggs. they turn color, make redds. etc. everythign except the eggs.
-
hmm thats wierd....I know the ones in omak lake lay eggs......and fertilize them.......Ive actually never fished the blue lake myself just going by what my friend said
-
The blue lake that I'm familiar with is just north of fish lake towards Loomis. I know that a few years back they poisoned it to get rid of some undesirable fish. I haven't fished it since but used to love it. I trolled around with a Cary special and did well. Another close spot to check out is Chopaka Lake. It's not that far away and well worth the trip up to it. Leave close to dusk and watch the animals all the way down. :)

Blue lake lahontans are way later than Lenore Lahotans. Gotta remember ice out is probably at least a month later. Maybe even more this year. The blue lake I am talking about is just passes Wannacut which is to the right and up as you are headed to Loomis. There might be one lower too. Its essentiall straight up the mountain from Oroville.
-
there's only about 14 different blue lakes in washington. :)
trout unlimited site says lahontans spawn from march through june. i'm sure it's totally based on climate, ice-off, etc.

The Blue Lake on the Sinlehekin road does not have any Lahontans. There is a blue lake with some MONSTER brook trout on top of the hill. A guy I have seen up there a few weekends in a row may have caught the state record there last year. I never followed up to look. I saw the pig and it was huge...need to go look for state record Brookies now...
I have fished Blue Lake consistently since 1993. haven't missed a year on the weekend after Mothers day. It is my brother in law and all his friends trip they started in 1980. They all have known me since I was about 6.
-
I think they should come up with a better name than blue lake especially when I know of 3 in okanogan county all veyr close to eachother! it gets very confusing..........

I'm with ya on Chopaka, not to minimize Blue but Chopaka is beautiful and full of huge trout, if you're out there it would be a shame not to drive up the hill and hit Chopaka. And if you're not a fly fishing purist you should swing into Palmer and hit a few Smallmouth. The Sinlehekin is a great recreational resource....

Guys Chopaka used to be great untill it was poisoned a couple years ago. This was a controled moved which should bring Chopaka back to the level it once was at. The lake really needs low pressure for a least another two years before it will be good. Blue lake should be good this weekend, we have had some odd weather around these parts, but its going to warm up this weekend.
-
It won't be long before some *censored* puts bass back into Chopaka. They just better hope the WDFW catches them and not me. 8)
You are right, there are too many Blue lakes, apparantly several right in the same area. I'm talking about the one that is just to the north of Wannacut.

Weather is lookin awesome today! Hope the weekend is the same for your trip!

We hit Chopaka if the weather has been warm early in the spring. Weekend after mothers day is when the seattle flyfishing club usually overruns the lake. Last couple times I went up there it was a really rude group of guys....I may live on the West Side but, you will never find me being rude to anyone in the woods/hills/water unless they are being J*ck*sses.
Blue Lake was HOT! First time in a few years I boated some Browns. Big fish were there but biting really slow. Only saw a handfull of the lafger fish caught. Also different this year, the fishing was best in the big lake. Not the small lagoon or middle pond. Lots of 12" - 16" rainbows. Saw a good handful of browns. My brother-in-law boated 17 fish in one afternoon of trolling a green wooley. I wasn't so lucky but, still caught my share.

And a couple brookies from my favorite place---Forde Pond....lots of small fish....should be great in there next year.
