Mods, please move if not appropriately placed.
WA State made national news again, and not in a good way-
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/washington-state-sees-spike-in-smash-and-grabs-at-trailheads-prompting-more-patrols/ar-AAWIdJT?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=0f884bf8a8bc40e5b41215d4dd20bd38
Increasing smash-and-grab crime at trailheads, primarily in the western part of the state. Be careful out there, folks, and don't leave anything of value in your rig.
Sickening stuff.
-
Time to set up some sting operations!
-
This has been a problem for 20 years. Recently it’s been exasperated by D’s legislation…….and it’s not just trailheads it’s peoples homes too.
-
I seriously hate thieves, to the point I’d probably be arrested if I caught one of the pukes in the act. Sure a lot different nowadays. Back in the day, if you were caught and were beaten to a pulp, nobody batted an eye or lost any sleep. They learned the errors of their ways and realized, it’s not acceptable behavior.

:yeah:
I’m right there with you

It's really shot up on the peninsula. The areas getting hit hard are the close to town type trails where the dog walkers go or the old people take their morning walk. Lots of reports of vehicle registrations being stolen.

Sucks huge but it’s come to this. :bash: Don’t leave anything in your rig, your registration, insurance (nothing with your address), or garage door opener; it all goes with you on your hunt/hike. It’s a bit over $100 with insurance to get your window replaced. Do not leave stuff in your rig that gives them your address.

i always put a cable locked trail cam pointed at my truck. Caught one guy already, turned the video into the fed cop and he took care of it. haven't seen the guy up there since, we use to get him on camera driving past quite often.local old guy that you wouldn't think would steal your stuff by how he looked.
-
Watch boat launches for dem cork soakers too :bash:
-
This has been going on since the early 80s.
I use to run the Mt Si trail in the early 80s. Even back then there were so many break ins, glass covered the whole parking lot.
In the 90s, all the trail heads along I-90 had the same thing happen. In the early 2000s, parking at the east side boat ramp parking lot at American Lake, it was almost garunteed you woul be broken into at the least, and your catalytic converters would be hacked off.
Same time, parking at Lake Kaposin boat ramp was an invitation to getting broken into.
I quit fishing American Lake and Lake Kaposin because it was so bad.
In each of these instances, it took epidemic levels of theft before law enforcement took action.
They would go in and setup bait vehicles, catch a few perpetrators and call it good. A few weeks later the cycle reappears at another location.
Obviously this problem has been at epidemic levels for over 40 years.
Yet no permanent solution has been enacted. The stings work, but there has to be a much larger effort that works year round and all locations to keep up with the meth maggots and crackheads. And with the current state of the prosecutor’s in the Puget Sound area not willing to prosecute criminals, they are out in he same day to rinse and repeat.
-
these thieves know that they will be back on the streets in this state as soon as the next morning. they must just need counseling instead of vigilante justice which us as law abiding citizens need to impose.

That's the truth.
Can't really think of the lesson plan.
But I'm sure if it was my truck being broke into.
I could come up with something.
-
Just leave the bodies lay.
-
I’ve always thought a retired guy or just someone who wanted to read a book, relax and make some easy money should just stay at trail heads with a tip jar and watch peoples stuff!!! Maybe have your side arm or AR on you with a sign saying taking donations and when you get back, your stuff will be fine!!
-
Just leave the bodies lay.
this too!!

Just leave the bodies lay.
I just have to be in the situation type of guy ,before I could say what would happen.
I'm pretty easy going type guy.
But when I boil over ,it's not gonna be a good day for anybody. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
We need a chapter of the guardian angels here in Wa, except, we will be able to carry!
-
I'm really not that tough....
It usually ends up with my old ,over weight, tired in ten minutes, rolling around in the dirt, punches flying.
Looking like two raccoons fighting in a feed sack.
Then when the fight stops ,nobody really won anyway. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I’d love to see thieves beat to a pulp and left for dead, but if someone is watching the cars with a side arm, bright orange vest and a sign saying security, the dirtbags will just drive on by!

Unfortunately people blatantly commit crime in front of legit paid security and actual Leo right now so a volunteer security wouldn't do much...

I bet it would deter most scum bags, the others might need a little encouragement to move along. I'd have a video camera on my person and get good picks of the people and the rig they drove up in, at least its something. But I'd bet most would just keep going by?? I'd gladly throw a 20 spot in the donation box to know my windows will still be intact when I get back.
-
My sons truck was just broken into at a park and ride, took everything...it was all caught on camera! The suspect was from King Co. and was EASILY identified by LE...he has 20 plus prior cases for the exact same crime :bash:

You would think in a normal world it would be a deterrent... today's world it's not...

My cop friend would say, hopefully he gets caught by a private citizen one time.

My cop buddy said the other day that they hope citizens start taking care of these scum bags, he says the more private citizens start fighting back, the more the criminals will take notice and have something to worry about. I 100% agree. A dead man tells no tales
-
Totally agree! This crap is way out of control and these criminals have no fear...time to change their mentality!!!

People will do anything to feed their drug habit. Stuff is so addictive, the withdrawals so bad.
Even here in the Tri-Cities, people getting their windows broke at the Candy mountain TH. BIG, wide open parking lot, VISIBLE from the freeway, and folks come back to a smashed window or stolen car.
-
If I was planning to park at a trailhead, I think I’d remove everything from my truck that’s worth money, and just leave my windows down and/or unlocked.

Yeah, pretty obvious problems with highly contested solutions. For example: getting rid of narcan would probably drop the crime rate a bit.
-
One problem (and yes, I said ‘problem’) is with all the camera’s around, YOU very well may get sued if you lay a hand on them.
It’s like my wife always says, “You get what you vote for.”
When they let criminals back out before the paperwork is even finished processing, that is what you get.
It has to be quite depressing to law enforcement to see that happen.
I could tell some stories about the Cops in Montana in the 70’s…

Guess I lived a sheltered life. When i grew up back in the 80's, kids that did do drugs/alcohol, drank and/or smoked pot. I didn't know anybody that did heroin or crack or anything else.
Now they have all these various pills, which then when you cant get those you do heroin. Fentanyl? Extasy? Meth? Crack?, Mexis? Oxys?
So many of these kids grow up with messed up parents that are addicted themselves, maybe they get molested and nobody cares.
The parents put there kids on ADD medications, which probably helps some/lot? of kids, but with others it teaches them to self medicate later on in life. It was accepted to take a prescription to change how your brain works, why not skip the middle man and smoke pot, then dabble in this or that?
IIIIIIIIII, don't know..... :dunno:
-
Cops are being killed in record numbers and lawlessness is at all time highs, respect and fear of cops is likewase very low.
I wonder what correlations could be drawn here.
I wonder if you took cops from the old Wyatt Earp days, cloned them and turned em loose today, what kind of chaos would ensue :chuckle:

Police forces in Cities like Seattle are down in force by 50-80%. With legislation that protects the criminals and drowns the LEOs in restraint and liability, criminals feel free to do as they wish. The defund the police movement has died...but too late to prevent chaos. This is all by design.
-
Yup, devolved into pension protection

I get daily updates about the nefarious activity of criminals...if you guys only knew.
Prosecutors are looking to hang cops..it's a status thing to show your worth to the left...and the AGs office is chomping at the bit to hang some gun toting 2A conservative that dirt naps some poor drug user for a petty crime that was never given a chance by his upbringing and the current system....
Tread lightly.

The real injustice here is that someone justified in shooting one of these miscreants has to defend himself against the massive power of a government bent on convicting him as an example to the rest. If you can't take the peoples' guns, make them not want to use them.

Nothing makes people toe the line like fear of punishment. :twocents:

:yeah:

I'll second that. Grew up in NW MT in the 70s/80s. Different place, different era.

Neighbor had a smash and grab at a county trailhead. The perp stole clothes...

It’s so unfortunate that this is the truth. On a side note, have you ever seen those 3” needle darts that fly out of a blow gun with incredible accuracy? Have you ever noticed the amazing velocity a good quality wrist rocket and a pocket full of ball bearings will achieve?

Had my car dug through a few months ago, people down the street are getting their cars and catalytic converters stolen. Had a car parked outside my house last year with the occupants eyeing out our property, police never showed up to confront them despite being called three times.
Lead would be a great antidote for the rising thefts but I'd rather not go to jail protecting my property (or self) over someone who has repeat offences and should not be in the public.
It's really *censored* stupid that criminals are basically protected in this state, cant do jack to protect yourself unless you want to lose your gun rights, police wont/cant really do much.
-
I might hafta get me a guard bull, the kind that sends everyone running diving over fences...
It's amazing how many people are scared of cattle :chuckle:

My buddy did that and they stole his floor mats and tire jack.

I like that idea, but I’d modify it a little. Some sort of high budget jacket laying on the drivers seat. And underneath the jacket is a bear trap u-bolted to the frame with the ends of the u bolts bent 90° :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If you're gonna do all that, might as well SS
