Title: How many Elk points do you have?
Post by: SkookumHntr on May 13, 2009, 01:31:50 PM: --Just curious to how many points and what modern, muzz, or arch do you go for? Just want to see how I stack out in there in the bonus points world!

But I'll go into the drawing with 1 point from last year and one for this year. I will be putting in for some ML elk permits (Western) again.

The big orange box in front of your picture, on the front cover of the regs. is easy to miss. :chuckle:

--Ya ive talked to guys that have no idea that the deadline is next week aswell. Looking at peoples pts im real hopefull that next year when wdfw says there going to make the system "work" that the guys at the top of the list will start to get drawn. I cant believe how many people have more than 14 pts though! I think that nobody should be allowed to have more pts than guys that have been applying since 96 but thats just the way it goes i guess.

Sorry Bob, I was trying to be funny.... cows don't have points...

I only ever apply for one specific hunt and that is all.

Keep in mind that applying as a group reduces your chances of getting drawn.

Q: If I am part of a group application, are my chances of getting a permit greater than if I apply by myself?
A: Those who apply as an Individual actually have the advantage over those who apply with a Group. In fact, the larger the group, the more your chances of being selected for a permit are reduced.

Keep in mind that even when applying with a group, you are allowed to apply as an Individual also.

Q: Will there still be partnerships?
A: There will still be "partnerships", but the new system will allow more than two for some game animal species. We are now calling this a "Group" which consists of the Leader of the Group and Members of a Group. A hunter may also apply as an Individual. The group sizes vary depending on species. Consult the hunting pamphlet for the maximum group sizes by species.

I dropped into Big 5 to pick up my clam license and since I didn't see them anywhere I figured I'd ask. The guy opened a drawer and handed a copy to me. It used to be there'd be stacks of them in the usual places.

There are several units that are either sex for the general season. The Washougal being one.

Only problem is I can hunt this yr, but prolly not for the next 3-5, due to work oblgations. That being said, i might try and burn it on a margret tag (i know, good luck), and just get gohst points. The only other interesting unit is the nooksak, for obvious reasons.

Arent all points per species, just that, points for a species and not east or westside only until you put in for the tag? As an example, I have nine points all of which I have accumulated while putting in for westside rifle hunts and didn't draw, Now I am thinking of using those points for an eastside archery tag. Am I missing something/

Then every fall I cow/spike hunt the area and call bulls into bow range that convince me to keep putting in the next year.

Dude, if I burned 6 points on a cow I would . :'( WHat about hunting out of state. Cow tag shouldn't be that hard to draw elsewhere...
