UNSOLICTED TESTIMONIAL HERE:

We picked up a lab pup from Rainshadow/Steve a couple months ago.   He's about 3.5 months old now, I think.

He is without a doubt the smartest, kindest, quickest learning pup in the history of pups.

I simply can't say enough good about Steve's pups.

This is actually the 2nd pup we've taken home from Steve.  The first was a pup he donated to a charity auction.   Keeping that pup overnight was enough to convince my wife and I that we actually did want another dog (we were pretty sure we were done.)

You can see the love and care he puts into rearing amazing pups.

If you are wondering about the breeder, he has my 100% confidence.

Again, 100% unsolicited.
I just know that not all dog breeders are the same, and these pups get the best possible care, attention and training.

Thanks Dan, the feedback I'm getting from new owners is really something else. It's working. They're learning from DAY ONE that they're supposed to look to Master first, before going after what they want. WEEKS before they get to their new home! It's engrained. Then you don't have to break the self-centeredness in order to start... they're already started. It's working awesome!

Bella's Puppies are doing great with food dish training, and looking for eye contact to get permission.

Leia's Puppies are doing great with gate training, and the food dish manners  are getting established.

We will be switching the litters between puppy areas this week to focus on the other discipline, and to expose them to different environmental situations. This scenario is going to be great for their exposure conditioning, and ability to mentally and emotionally adjust to different situations. (I will be incorporating these kinds of adjustments into future litters as well... as a graduated continuation of ENS... It's like puppy graduate school!)

I'm trying to improve all dog ownership here...
I am really investing time into my puppy whelping routine, and I am getting some REALLY encouraging feedback from new owners!
Most puppies are just caged and cared for. What I’m using to learn and develop a disciplined routine is this theory:
"Puppies understand, and will listen, from 3-4 weeks of age."
That means, from 3-4 weeks, until 8-10 weeks when they go home with you, pups are usually establishing feral and self centered habit patterns, which you then have to invest time and frustration (and slippers and whatever else) into breaking.
Four to Six Weeks of understanding, but with no structure and discipline! No wonder people fear the “Crazy Puppy” phase.
I’m learning (and experimenting and developing) methods and techniques and structures to engage EXTREMELY young pups in controlled and focused behavior… And it’s working!
I’m documenting it as I go on my new website, rainshadowlabradors.com
Take a look! It's new, and I’m adding to it all the time, as I’m applying and testing new challenges for these pups.
Imagine, 10 - six week old puppies, as I throw their gate open, coming up to the threshold….. and sitting down and looking up at master for directions.
Ok don’t imagine it… go look at the video!
Coming soon: TWENTY pups doing the same thing. (Seriously, I'm going to do it!)
And, because they haven't been allowed to raise themselves, they go to their new homes calm and ready to listen.
It’s working! I’m really excited about where this is going to go!

Milo and Bella's pedigrees probably have these numbers on them now, but I haven't ordered new ones...

Milo's data...

Medical Screens
DNA Number:   AKC DNA #V10031064
OFA Number:   OFA33E OFEL33
OFEL Number:   OFEL33

Bella's data...

Medical Screens
OFA Number:   OFA63G OFEL63
OFEL Number:   OFEL63

Leia and Lily will do OFA's later this Summer. Will probably do DNA on the 3 girls too, mostly just to support AKC, which seems to be languishing a little, and I think it's worthy of supporting.

I'll post more puppy pics too, I know I like looking at them!

If I didn't already have a one year old lab  :chuckle:

It'll be interesting to see how your experiment goes. I'm probably a few years away from our next puppy so by then you'll probably have them field ready by take home time! Great looking dogs.

Just by their recent response to me I can tell I'm needing to incorporate more expectations, they can handle a few more. (I'm repeating food, gate, and jumping manners... but they're getting to be reflex... I need a couple more.)

Just going on 7 weeks, and like any toddlers, they forget... but they remember immediately.

I get hovering over them, withholding their food, and reach out to reward (with affection) one who is sitting looking at me, and you can see most of them realizing, "Oh! Yeah! Supposed to sit down and be quiet!" It's actually hilarious to watch! They push in and plop their little bottoms down, looking up expectantly for a pet!

I'm varying their eating scenarios so it's not just a straight up pattern, and I'm about to move them ALL together, into a new run I just built. (Then I'll get the 20, seven week old puppies sitting quietly at the gate video! - - Hopefully!!!)

Several still available. Feel free to contact me to make a deposit.

So, this happened today!

TWENTY puppies at the Gate….

These pups are primed and conditioned to SKIP the “crazy puppy phase!” No matter how you plan to train them, they’re already looking to human and LISTENING!

Taking deposits!

His puppies don't misbehave....   (much).

We have a 4 month lab puppy from Steve, and he is AH- MAY-ZING.

I think you need a puppy.

Dan-o, I told ya they could lose it if you let them!  ;)

These babies are so locked in on the gate and looking to me before food, that I’m going to try to incorporate making them wait for a release command after the food is served.
Simple concept with one puppy… we’ll see if it’s doable with 20!

We have a deposit down on one of these pups and took the kids over last weekend to take a look. The pups look great. Steve opened the gate while 20 puppies sat stock-still and waited for him to go in. He then had them all sitting at the far end of the run while I poured food into their trough. All 20 sat there waiting until he gave the OK to eat. Pretty impressive! Looking forward to picking up our boy in a few weeks.

Really happy about this... although switching to doing this solo was actually quicker than I expected.

They still 'false start' occasionally, and I have to start over, but I'm getting this most of the time now...

They were doing SO good this morning I had to stop, and pull my phone out, unlock it, go to the camera…. Then this is what I got! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220609/23d8042f437535c9ccf9168e35176255.jpg)

They were whining and shaking in anticipation, food was distributed, but I kept my hand up and they HELD!

Message me if you want to take one of these pups and go from here!

Tested their hearing comprehension today! They just about caught it! (They actually did stop! But they all surged.)

Next challenge accepted! Gonna mess with them and make them listen to the WORD, not the tone it’s spoken.

(Pasted a clickable link below…)

If you maintain this concept when you take one of these puppies home, training will be a simple matter of guiding the pup to the behavior you’re teaching them… they’re already listening!

Had a bit of a run this weekend, 4 of these babies got new PACK LEADERS to take over their schooling!

Still have several of both genders to choose from!

Release command for food is pretty much a LOCK now, so I'm about to switch them to sit, hold, and come, then sit again... continuing to train as a group. This week!

Here's a video showing the feeding process (all 3 disciplines, gate, respect under the food, then wait for release) that my Cousin took with 6 adults and 4 kids standing around watching and talking... focus through distraction!!!

Made a playpen area on the grass with a wading pool in it. They loved the water and I did two rounds of sit/hold/come to affection, they all did perfect! Shows they're listening even without the prospect of food involved!

Here’s a video from today, 7 boys together, doing Sit/Hold/Come

https://youtube.com/shorts/W4LgdS5N-6I?feature=share

The “hold” is silent in my training method! If I say “hold” or “stay” then basically I’m saying that I didn’t really mean it when I said “sit!”

Besides, the “hold” command comes later when you don’t want them to drop what they fetched.

These two girls are going home today, so I separated them out for a few drills in the grass. (Hot today, 80+.)

Had a a little jump of the gun on this one, but I was really proud of them for recovering the “sit” from a distance!

Not that I'm looking for a puppy, but just for informations sake what do you have left?

8 still available, both genders, 3 inquiries going, so 5 for sure.

Going to maintain group training, add some individual drills, and photograph and describe each pup next week.

Will maintain that until the third week of July, then if there are any left, I will switch to one-on-one finish training, and start raising the prices. If I have any left by 10 months, I’ll most likely go ahead and field trial them (and continue raising the price!)

Mid July will be the last chance at puppy prices. STARTED Puppies.

Thanks for the comments, Just went out and spent some time with the group... checking identification collars and a paint marker, but mostly just hanging out. So, here are the individual pics and short descriptions of the pups I still have on the block...

I have a few inquiries going, but no deposit no hold, so these are available. They can be picked up any time now, they're ready. Or, I can Deliver to most of WA, some of OR, some of ID, meet you in the middle, hold for awhile, arrange long distance transport, etc. Many options.

These are awesome pups, I'm getting obedience and behavior I never dreamed was possible in puppies... the ENS/Puppy Training system of "STARTED Puppies" is really working. Check the website if you haven't yet...

rainshadowlabradors.com

Ok, here they are... in Selah WA... Ready to go!

Have had our pup, Betsy (from Leia's litter) , for a full week now.  Can say she is the easiest, most willing/enthusiastic learner I have ever trained.  There's clearly something to the ENS training.
The obedience clearly transferred from Steve, to my wife and I.   However, I watching one of the videos he posted of a feeding, and Betsy obeyed Steve and ran to the TV on release.  Was a little confused about no food at the end  :)

I highly recommend these pups.

Thanks Tom, that video was great! She's such a good baby! Still listening to me from 5 hours drive away!

Great to meet you guys, I'm very happy you folks will be owning Betsy!

I'm excited to hear how your training journey goes!

YellowRedSparkles is Reserved.

Here's a video from today.

Had a LONG wait, THEN I took my phone out and really made them wait! I wanted to show how the release word "FOOD" has become their sole focus, no encouraging needed like when I first established the routine.

Had one pup break, then stop, and recover. I should have made it go further back, but I had waited so long I figured it was ok. The pup did step back to recover the "sit" so it was a sucess.

Here it is...

I am heading to Auburn in about an hour!

7 pups still available...

Video from today: Switching it up on the puppies causes them to re-focus their LISTENING… they can’t just perform a habitual ritual. Get them out of the routine and make them listen!

Will be posting individual pics and videos for the remaining pups this week. Lots of inquiries, several "I'm going to tomorrow..." but I still have 6 left. No holds without deposits!

Wanted to make note than I'll be going to Auburn again midday on the 21st, and my son, David (pens, letter openers, cleavers, etc...) will be continuing on to the North Olympic Peninsula and delivering at least one Pup for me there. So we have the ability to meet closer if you need!

Thanks!

This girl separated herself from the pack when she saw the big dogs fetching in the pool… physically and in standing! After this video, she went back in several times and even did a pretty complete water retrieve!

She has about 3 suitors who claim to be interested, but she and 4 others are still available! (13 weeks.)

All of them have the potential to love water, none of them fear it, and all of them revel in it when I give them a cool bath in this heat... but this one pretty much introduced herself!

The key to introducing a pup to water is to keep it happy and exciting. No forcing, no fear. Once they do it, they're hooked! (If you force and introduce fear, then you've set yourself back from hours to months, depending on the trauma level for theat particular puppy.)

Been spending the afternoons with the big dogs, still in group training, but learning so much in the big yard! Pecking order, stairs, adventuring, playing with toys, sprinklers/wading pool/big pool, etc. (Brown Boy even tore off after a hapless dove who inexplicable landed in the dog yard!)

They’re loving it, after three days of it they’re anxious to go, and pleading to go back!

Little girl (available), Red/Green (reserved), Brown Boy (available), and Leia’s Boy (available) have shown the most confidence in the big pool.

I’m doing an Auburn (from Selah) run Thursday, if anyone on that side wants to go ahead and pull the trigger on one of the 5 that remain. (I’ve already got two going on that ride!)

Then I’m taking a fishing trip to Canada to stand in a friend’s wedding, so the pups will be babysat by some of my kids.

When I get back in August, I’ll start in on individual training. They’ll advance fast, as all the reports I’m getting on these pups are all coming from really, really happy and excited new owners! The conditioning is paying off! They’re listening!
My only concern about one on one training the remaining pups is them bonding with me - something I’ve been intentionally avoiding. They can forget, and re-bond with a new owner, that’s done all the time with doggie boarding schools, but it’s one more thing that I think isn’t ideal. You taking your own dog from the litter and training it yourself is (imho) by far the best long-term scenario.

The price will negotiate - up - as I transition these babies to one on one training.

I can meet along the way!

Back from Vacation... found the river-fly-eating Cutts in Central Alberta... during the last three hours of our time up high!  :bash: (If anyone wants to escape the heat and feed Canadian mosquitoes, I can steer you to the fly fishing!)

Anyway, I've made a series of "Introductory Leash Training" videos, and 5 of them are specific to the pups still available, so I'll post them here.

16 weeks now, price is still 800m/1000f, negotiable/trades, but generally goes up $100 per week that they are trained daily (starting this week.)

They're socializing, and conditioning beautifully, and individual training has started!

Turquois Collar - Smaller Female.

Happy, sweet, loving, and pretty fearless! Loves the water!

Pink Collar - Larger female

Gentle, sweet, calm, smart...will need a gentle hand, but will REALLY thrive if she gets that!

Black Collar - Leia's boy

Great trainability and intensity - Really good attitude!

Blue Collar - Bella's Boy

Very sharp, excellent potential, attentive, he's a good one!

Red Collar - Bella's Boy

Leader of the pack, listens, needs strong leadership, but the sky is the limit if he gets it. Super intelligence!

These babies are available right now, there is no "end date" on their conditioning, it's just lifestyle that YOU pick up from here.

I honestly believe earlier is better, because I think there's tremendous power in the bonding, and the longer I train, the more they'll have to break with me, and bond with you.

But if you can't train yourself for some reason, they will get sharper and sharper, so it's a trade off! After manners and obedience are firmly established, I'll be incorporating retriever field/test training into the mix as a natual advancement/transition.

I'll take deposits to hold, and charge for train/board as mentioned above.

Black collar boy is lying down on command! (Other three are as well, but with reminders and repetition. Black collar boy is doing it hands free while on the leash!)

They have gate respect, they know they’re supposed to keep all fours on the floor, they wait for food release, they’re comfortable with water (most of them swimming), they know “back (up/away)”, they’ve all got “sit” “come” “heel” 100% locked down, and black collar is the first finisher on “(lie) down!”

Three boys, and one girl available! 16weeks.

Nice.

My Rainshadiw lab is now about 6 months old I think.

My only fear is that he might be smarter than me.
He is one wicked smart pup, and a very fast learner.

These 4 pups are still available. 17weeks. Started. Beginning some field related play.
Been out for a combat fetching session… not really to train anything, just to observe these 4 during their first exposure to the retrieve.
They watched their mom/grandma do a few, but when they were let out with her, she would back off and not perform. Bella does NOT compete!
Then we went out and just played… with communication. Got some consistent results. These results can give some great insights into these pups’ individual personality and training style:
Blue Collar Boy: Consistently finished the fetch. Don’t know if he “got it” for sure (I did praise the beans out of him every time) but he delivered all but one time. And I only picked up the pool attempt that they didn’t see, so only two he didn’t get, he finished the rest. He was combat fetching, and enjoying the competition, but it did seem like he understood what the game was!
Black Collar Boy: When they’d all rush out and attack the fetching dummy, I’d let them get it, and start moving with it, then I’d vocalize for their attention. Black collar boy would immediately break off the fight and come to heel. (I’d praise him for “come”ing to my call while the rest continued the combat fetch.) Absolutely the best ‘recall’ of the bunch, without question! Was definitely interested in the fetch, but he heard my voice and broke off.
Red Collar Boy: Happy and aggressive in the combat fetching. Made one of the retrieves. Recalled with black collar once. Loved the play session. Didn’t do any one thing consistently, but did everything at least once! None of the others did everything like he did.
Pink Collar Girl: Typically subordinated, but loved the play time. Got to the bird first or second every time, but then she’d let it go. Team-fetched with Blue once. Looked like she was going to finish a fetch once but one of her brothers took it away at the last minute. Very likely going to be like her grandma Bella, who is a great performer but refuses to compete.

Took the three remaining kids out for a normal one on one session this morning, Sit in the pen, come, sit outside the pen, heel, sit, heel, sit, lie down, kennel (in crate), sit (in crate), play or fetch with toy, sit, heel, sit, lie down, sit, hold the sit while I walked away, long distance come, sit, hold the sit until I go into the play yard, call them into the play yard….

Slightly shorter version of the normal morning routine, only this time…

OFF LEASH!!!!!!

They all did great! Very little correction!

Drock, if you need a duck dog, I got "One of Those" who is going to be known among his owner's peers! .....

Black Collar Boy has gone to his new home now too!

Sweetheart pink collar girl found another fan, mamma was in love with her, but daddy wanted black collar boy so she is still available.

Blue Collar Boy was fetching to heel and delivering to hand - - off leash - - this morning! He’s still available and I hope to get some video of fetch training with him before one of you guys snaps him up!

Pink Collar Girl is Pending Pick-Up/Payment this evening.

Currently in a discussion concerning Blue Collar Boy, the fetching machine... He's still available, but.......

The ride may be over for now... I'm a little bummed, actually, I hope I didn't create any re-bonding issues... I love these puppies! I'm very proud of them!

All my puppy owners, please keep in touch with me! I'd love to hear how the training process is going!

Thanks Everyone!

Just wanted to make a note for anyone who purchased a pup from our Yellow, Leia. Her OFA's came back with normal elbows and excellent hips. Milo has the same scores.
