I have never done this but have crabbed a ton. I'm in Stanwood and no idea on where to go localy. Anyone have any advice for me? My girls love prawn so it would be fun to get them out there as well. Thanks in advance.
Rocky Point south to Camano Head in Saratoga Passage 230-280 if you can find it. Really short opener but it is close to Stanwood. Watch the current it does run pretty good through there, and the middle of the passage can get rough. Used to go to Mabana on the southern end and did ok, but that's when we had all day, and not a four hour opener. You will see where to set shrimp pots on the opener there will be plenty of boats out to show you. :)

We avoided the crowds as always. No issues. 3 limit's in first two pots. Good size bugs to... Boat tied up and off the water by 11.

We did manage to hook two different derelict pots, one we brought in and one stuck to the bottom harder than I wanted to pull. Even the one we got overheated my puller and let a bit of secret smoke out.

Getting ready for saturday! My buddy called me and knows a guy who got 389 in one pot. I have shrimped for over 32 years including a few weeks commercial in B.C on my brother in laws boat and have never seen that! :yike: That called setting down on the BIOMASS!!!
That's pretty good fishing for sure, probably better than 99.9% of the pots I've pulled on 24 hour soaks up here. I can count the number of 10# pots (tail weight only), I've had on my boat on one hand.
I believe the Puget Sound spot prawn fishery has to be one of the best there is. I saw a listing for a Puget Sound commercial spot prawn permit on one of the brokerage sites for $330k a while ago, and it didn't last very long at all. I heard a rumor from a guy that is plugged into the fleet that one recently traded at $370k as well. Those are big numbers, and by my calc's and assumptions, the live weight dock price needs to be near $15/# to make it work. That's right at $30/# for tails, dock price! :yike: If anybody see them retailing at seafood shops anywhere I'd like to see what the prices are?? It's an interesting fishery, commercially, anyway.
