Here is one that my brother's friend took. I think it was in 06.  He hunted hard every day and took this one the next to the last day of the season.

Dad drew the tag back in '03, I was 13 years old. We had hunted hard for a couple days in the bitter cold and driving snow and were both flat worn out and not seeing the kinda bucks we thought were shootable. Now, here I should mention my dad shoots a really really old 7mm BAR. We were walking down this bermed road and watched 8-10 does cross in front of us. My dad, instinctively looking behind for a buck, was focused too close to the does. I spotted this deer out behind them a good 150 yards and just whispered "big buck". It looked like a pig of a deer facing straight at us, and dad instinctively shouldered his rifle, took careful aim, and CLICK! HE FORGOT TO PUT THE CLIP IN HIS GUN THAT MORNING! The buck stood stone still, thinking we hadn't seen him. dad got his rifle loaded and tried again. BAM! the deer did an honest to god backflip. He looked like he was pushing 28-30" wide from where we were standing but he measured out at 26" even. not a bad buck but there's bigger in that place.

No cause when I draw I am going after him. Besides I don't think I will ever be able to get permission to go onto the property where he is.

Nothing wrong with a 26" buck.  They can't all be 30 inchers.  He looks like a healthy but fairly young buck.  Did his body/head/ear size throw you off?

Yeah funny thing is his teeth were very, very worn. maybe just rough feed not age. He looked big enough at that point in the hunt lets put it that way lol

well, if I drew that tag, I would be happy with him (but maybe that's because I've never killed a 26" mulie).  Still, if you thought he was a 28 incher, I guess that would qualify as "ground shrinkage".  Got any other pics of him?

This is a buck from 2007.  There are much better in the unit, I think it is a great draw and a very fun hunt. Good luck to any that draw. Remember to scout, scout, scout.

We saw quite a few bucks during elk season, last year.  One that I would have been proud to take. Nice 4x4

The photo is decieving, he scored 146. I love the eyeguards as well.  It was a blast to hunt the rut. Can't wait to draw the rut tag again.

How many points did you guys have, or one's that you know that have drawn.  I have 5 (rifle) and put in for it and was wondering if i am even close.

if you go to wdfw website you can access 2008 drawing info and it will show what the average points were to draw on each specific hunt
Title: Re: QUILOMENE DEER!
Post by: furbearer365 on June 07, 2009, 12:26:02 PM
I have seen that site and i was wanting some actual numbers from people who have drawn.  An average does not tell me mcuh because if someone with 12 points draws and someone with two points draws then the average is seven.  So that means someone with 12 should technically drawn for sure and someone with two has no real chance.  I was wanting to know what the bulk of the quys drawing had.  In all actuality it all really doesn't matter because i can do nothing about how many points i have but was just curious.

My wife drew with 3 points last year and with help from a couple people on here got a nice 4x4 and saw lots of elk.

Hey wannahunt that is a great deer.  i am so confused because i hear such mixed reviews on this tag.  i have seen some awesome deer come out of this unit but i have also heard from guys that draw it that said it wasn't what they thought it was going to be and ate the tag.  I will stick to the pics of the caliber of deer rather than listening to others.  Who knows, they may be trying to mislead me. :dunno:

I have to say that in my experience anyway you have to find the pockets of deer in this unit. I spent a lot of time hunting the units when my kids drew doe tags year after year and we figured out the places we found nice bucks and were ready when we got drawn but it's not a slam dunk to find a nice deer. The first time I got drawn for a buck tag I ended up with a forkie on the last day. We got a real nice but not hugh 3x3 for my oldest son (I think he was 13 at the time) that year also on opening day.

Quilomene A hunt 1045 is listed as having 14 permits available.   Last year there were 2355 applicants.  If all applicants had the same number of points, odds of drawing are 14/2355 = 1 in 168.  Even someone with 12 points would have odds less than 10% if the average applicant had 5 points.

yikes, I don't like to think of it like that..... Thanks for the math Bob33, I did get the draw with only 3 pts. I will probably go to my grave with the rest of the points that I accumulate.

I drew for this in 02 I think for archery and it was brutally cold I slept in my truck but I spent only 30 minutes that morning before I shot this 3 point. I wasn't going to turn anything down after my first nite hardship. I figured I'd be miserable for the rest of the weekend so I took him. then after 5 hours of dragging on a steep side hill I watched as 30-40 other does and other similar bucks passed me by winding their way down the mountain ony 50-60 yards from me totally without a care in the world that I was there sweating my a@@ off draggin this buck out to the truck.(https://secure.techxpress.net/myhuntingroom.com/images/uploads/200807150055273883.jpg)

I never have had it scored. We were really fortunate that a couple people on here told us where to look and we just about drove right to the spot. She is still telling the story but her story is more about the roads we were on.
