What gaiters are your favorite and why? For a long time I ran just the old school ones from cabelas that zipped up the back and hooked on the front lace of you boot. Prior to last season I grabbed a pair of Kenetrek because I liked the idea of no zipper as well as the strap underneath the boot. They are ok but I am not sold.
-
Kenetrek, hands down
-
I have a pair of OR gaiters and have used some variety of OR for 30 years. They do what they are supposed to and last a long time.
Gaiters aren't something I get too worked up about.

I am one that always is tinkering with gear to find what I like and what works for me. Gaiters are important for my late season hunts as it feels like they tend to be more in wet snow or even rain versus back in the day when it was almost always powdery snow.
-
OR for the win.
-
My first lite gaiters are holding up well. Never had any issues with them.
-
USA OR for me. They just started producing their USA made line again.
-
Kenetreks were the quietest I've used, but durability was terrible. Finally gave up and went back to the ORs which have my vote as the best overall.
-
Outdoor Research crocodiles. Been using them for 30 years I think. They last a long time.
-
OR all the way.

X2. Put hundreds of miles on mine without any noticeable wear
-
I've found Kuiu gaiters to be the best. They actually stay up on your calf because of the rigid material. They also have the shorter scree gaiters which are great for warm weather early season. I have owned Kenetrek and OR gaiters which would not stay up on my calf as well. The material is too pliable and saggy.
-
I bought a set of PEAX last year and have been more than happy with them. They stay up and are built really well.
-
OR Crocs for sure, as long as you don’t need or want dead silent. OR makes several different varieties. You can’t try my Crocs but I’ve got some OR Rocky Mountains that might fit you. Happy to send them to you. Text me.
-
I have been using the Kenetreks for a while and got a new pair last year... the new ones aren't near as good as the older version... a little disapointed.
-
OR Crocs here as well. Tough as nails.

I agree. I’m thinking about trying to put some sort of draw string around and through the top of them. Put on 7 miles in a rain storm the other day and the weight of my wet pants was pushing my gaitors down my shins.
-
PEAX all the way... Have many sets trying to find "THE" pair, only using PEAX now, no longer searching!
-
Kuiu Yukons for the win !

I've tried Peax and OR. OR seem to be the standard, but I've always struggled with them staying up and comfortable. All made outside USA.
Check out Stone Glaciers. Made in USA and their Velcro system to custom fit around your leg is a game changer for me. Replaceable bottom strap material should it wear out. These will be the only ones I will recommend going forward.
-
I have used first lite and honestly they don’t hold up, outdoor research USA are my pick . I did last season purchase a set from TANDKHUnting and there American made and super heavy duty but there so heavy duty there dang near snake gators little too much for me
-
OR or kuiu, I have both and they are both bullet proof.

This was my exactly complaint for mine too. Can never keep them up where they should be even when cinched as tight as they go

Stone Glaciers are the only ones that don't do that for me.

I can't get the right fit with the OR crocs. I've got skinny legs I guess. Size 12 boot and if I go with XL or L they're too baggy for my liking. If I go size M they're not long enough to get up and over my calf. Anyone else have trouble with the fit? Any big foot/skinny legged guys find a gator that fits well?
-
Outdoor Research does make amazing gaiters. I have a buddy with the Kenetreks, and they "do the job". I've had FL Brambler for quite some time and they're probably the favorite ones I've used. Just have them in brown but they're easy on and easy off and stay put. Very comfortable, too.
-
I've had the OR Crocs for quite a while now. I don't use them too often, but they work great when I do.
-
Always OR for me, but my buddy got the wrong size In kuiu and they fit me so I’ve been using them for the last couple years. There legit
-
I have a gaiter question few you guys suggesting brands. I have a pair of old core 4 elements and they swet/condensate really bad do all of them do it or are some better than others?
-
I have a pair of fleece Cabelas gators that I've had for probably 20 years. They work for me.

I believe all are different in my opinion

I wear gaiters year round, picking berries, rain, snow hunting, whatever. Used to wear out a pair about every two years but mine last longer now as a codger. Front closure was a game changer for me compared to the old zip up the back kind. I’m on my second pair of Kenetreks now, all four of them with repair work showing, plus I bought a pair of OR last year, some kind of bomb proof noisy nylon but good gaiters.
I often wear gaiters inside my pant legs, especially if the gaiters are noisy and I am hunting. Also, when it is raining or I’m in wet brush, having pant legs outside the gaiters keeps my boots much drier. Wet pant legs inside the gaiters drain water inside the gaiter and into boot tops. Pant legs outside the gaiter shed water outside the gaiter.
Big calves here, never had trouble with a gaiter staying up.
-
Absolutely love my Kuiu Yukon gaiters and I work em hard year round. I’ve never tried anything else though, because I’ve never wanted anything more than what I get from them.

same here and I’ve tried darn near every brand out there and Yukons are my go to year round even when wearing shorts in somer I carry to be able to get through nasty stuff
-
I really like my Yukon gators. I owned a pair of kenetrek for a long time. They did great as well.
-
Wear my KUIU gaiters every time I go in the woods and they have been great

Check out the Kuiu Scree gaitors if you want something light weight and breathable. Otherwise I would say yes, the heavier, sturdier gaitors are going to make you sweat more and trap in moisture. In my experience anything that is waterproof is not breathable.

I've wondered how come gaiter makers don't bring the material down over the end laces/toe area. No matter the boot or gaiter, after 5-10 days in constantly wet weather, walking through wet brush, my boots wet out. Like Okanogan said, I wear the gaiters under my pants to shed water. My buddy and I have "designed" better gaiters--really boot covers--in conversation, but have not implemented the design. I've looked at various super gaiters designed for mountaineering. They incorporate rubber rands that hug the boot just above the tread. They are usually designed for super cold temps, not wet.
Anybody every use that type design hunting? Ever solve the problem of staying dry on a 10-day wet backpack hunting trip?
-
I use Outdoor Research and Kenetrek gaiters
-
I just picked up some of the black ovis gaiters on sale guess we'll see how they are.

Gaiters under your pants. Interesting... Does it not rub your legs?
I have often wondered why a company doesn't have pants that have some kind of system set up to add gaiters to. Some kind of attachment system just below the knee so that they stay up and fit correct
-
be easy to do, sew on a loop at the bottom of your pants and use a blousing strap above your calf - voila! :chuckle:
If you normally wear a 32 inseam, order a 36!

Seems to me it would be an easy way to have people buy your product versus a competitor

Yes, but not that bothersome.

Another vote for kuiu gators, I get about twice the life out of them than I did when I ran the kenetrek gators
-

alright I've worn 3 or 4 times and blew out the stitching in them already.
-
OR for the win.
hmmm.....seems like someone told you what to buy and you didn't listen :chuckle:
-
OR Crocs are bomber but loud as sin.
I've been running KUIU's for hunting and they're good for 2-3 seasons depending on your mileage.
Don't sweat the choice. They're a high wear attrition item that's constantly being rubbed by brush, rocks, occasional crampon rash and normal backcountry use.
Use 'em until you need to toss 'em or give 'em to a new hunter or kiddo before they're too far gone.

This is season 7 with my Yukon's, still no issues and I will wear them until they leak or fall apart. I do a lot of brush busting and they are way quieter than my buddies OR's.
