My account has changed some in the last 20 minutes. Not showing any point page, special hunts page, as well as some other pages. Hopefully that's a good sign as yours shows D-Rock. Maybe it means we are on our way to seeing these results soon.

That must mean you deciphered my huntwa handle and forgot to look at anyone else's!?!
But congrats, I'd trade every special draw in the state for a goat tag. Hope you bring us along with you.

-
Congratulations! Looking forward to the story!
-
How many points!?
-
15 points :sry:
-
One of the main access roads to Lincoln peak got washed out this last winter. Just makes the hike a little further though. Congratulations!
-
A buddy drew the same tag , we’ll be up there
-
Congrats
-
I better get the Browning dialed :bfg: or maybe the bow :archery_smiley:
-
The other tag holder is a good buddy of mine and he's on this site as well. I am not going to miss out on this one, I will be up there with him....He needs to come out of the closet and fess up as he drew a good Archery elk permit as well.

:yeah:
39 washed out around 4 mile mark. Non-motorized access is allowed.
Road closure will keep the hiker numbers way down, that's a VERY popular access.
-

That would be pretty awesome to have the chance to stalk goats with a bow
Maybe your pard will pack the rifle around so you have both options

Nothing to offer but my congrats on drawing the tag!!

how much does it add to the hike now?
-
Looks like the road wash out adds about 4 miles to the hike.
-
Good luck, hope you get a nice one!

I’ve got a decent mountain bike if you want to use it.
-
I appreciate the offer.
-
congrats  just following this one should be good
-
I also have a decent mnt bike, could hook a trailer up to it, if you need it.
-
You should join the new era and buy an e-bike. What is an OIL hunt if you don't spend like it!? You need a new mountain rifle, a new tent, a new truck (or just a truck generally), an ebike, an ebike trailer, some climbing gear, some climbing lessons, and a personal trainer. Get to it. You've gotta work for that extra inch!
-
You can rent ebikes, it's not cheap but for an OIL tag something that might be worth it.

Oh heck yes. It will really start to sink in after that first trip.

I hate you so much.

Spent the weekend with the goats no shots were fired but we found a couple.
-
Location issues or waiting for longer hair? Or just didn't see one that tickled your fancy?
-
Location issues mainly.
-
Awesome. Thanks for the update. Hope you find one in a killable/recoverable location soon.
-
The views are pretty epic.

Any update

We started the trip off Friday afternoon by driving to the trailhead and car camping. I had 2 friends and my daughter committed on going in for 4 days and 1 friend just for the weekend. We hit the trail head shortly after daylight and spent a few hours hiking up to camp. On the way up the trail i got stung by a bee on the eyelid popped a couple benadryl and called it good. That afternoon after we got camp set we were able to move out to glassing spot. We turned up 4 or 5 goats including "super nanny" under a waterfall and a 1 horned unicorn. 1 billy a long way off we tried to get closer to that afternoon but had to get across a basin and into the next but couldn't come up with a safe route in time to get there before dark. My eye seemed fine most of the day until about 1:30 in the morning when I woke up and it was almost swollen shut.
-
Hike in
-
That eye looks bad . WHOA! :yike:
-
Sunday morning we got up before daylight made coffee and started glassing goats from camp. We turned up 3 goats in 1 basin me and a buddy went to get a closer look at while my daughter and 2 other buddies went to check the other basin. We determined 2 of the goats we went to check out were Billy's both bedded about 200 yards apart the bigger of the two bedded on the left side smaller of the two on the right. I decided to try a stock coming straight up the bottom below the goats out of sight from the bench they were bedded on. First I had to cross about 300 yards of glacier to even get below the goats. The goats were bedded just below the upper glacier in picture.
-
Glacier
-
As I made my approach from the bottom the smaller goat got up from his bed and looked down towards me so I hunkered down until he went out of sight again. I kept creeping up and goat popped up on my left side about 200 yards straight up. I got on the gun and touched one off seeing blood on his shoulder almost instantly I made a quick off hand follow up shot on the run hitting him back as he trucked across the hill before loosing sight of him. Goat of course ran to the left witch was the spot we didn't want him to go. I climbed up the cliffs above were goat went but was unable to see goat but it was enough to pressure him into getting up and move down out of the cliffs were we couldn't have recovered him if he died. He finally tumbled down the cliffs to his resting place. 1st shot ended up being to far forward on a quartering away shot come in on the shoulder and exiting the neck. 2nd shot went in hind quarter and I don't think exited. At this point I didn't know if goat was alive or dead until I hiked back down the cliffs and discovered him piled up about 200 yards to my right below the cliffs in the shale.
-
How's the eye now?
-
Picture from shooting location.
-
Nice goat!
-
Pic my daughter took of me of me going on stock
-
Very cool. Congrats D-Rock!
-
1 friend came across after I got to goat and we packed out all the meat coming down in the cliffs and crossing glacier in the dark getting back to camp about 1030 that night. The next morning I hiked back up to get hide and some gear I left the night before while the others hiked camp and meat down to the trailhead where I met them.
-
Congratulations!
-
Pack out crew with the cold successful celebratory beers. Was pretty cool to have my daughter along on the hunt and to see her crush it in some tough country.
-
Awesome! Full body mount?
-
Congratulations and nice goat! Way to make the most out of that tag!
-
Congrats again. Amazing experience
-
Yaaasssss!!
Congrats, Darren! That looks like a good sized billy. Can you share some measurements?
-
Fantastic!! Congrats on a great hunt and great goat. So cool you could have your daughter with you for this experience.

turns out I shot the smaller of the two Billy's after the small one saw me he cut across and came under the bigger billy still bedded and I shot the smaller of the two thinking it was the bigger of the two.
-

Meh. Still a good looking billy.

First of all, Congrats! Secondly, thanks for letting me come along and making me cross a glacier in the dark. The look on the hiker's faces yesterday were priceless. Lastly, your daughter is a savage, she really stepped up so we didn't have to come back up the mountain!
-
Congrats man. Goat hunting is tuff stuff. Super stoked you got to share it with your daughter. That adds so much more to the experience than any amount of inches can. Congratulations on a great hunt. You will always have found memories as you look at your trophy on the wall.

I learned in 2017 that mountain goat hunting makes people do stuff they really don't want to do in real life. I didn't have to deal with any glaciers but there were cliffs involved.
-
So awesome. Always better with the kids around. Congrats
-
So cool! Wish it was me, congratulations

Congratulations on an awesome Goat!

Yea, put on the big boy pants, cause fear does zero good and stupidity helps. The hikers thought we were rock climbers that had gotten stuck across the glacier for the night. Watching from the other side, there were a couple times I was seriously concerned for D-Rock. I waited until he had made it to the goat to cross the glacier.
-
Awesome work, D-Rock!!! What an experience to share with your daughter.
Congratulations.
-
Nicely done. Glad to see you got yourself a nice Billy. Wouldn't surprise me if you're one of the last two guys to shoot a goat in that unit legally for many years to come... Congratulations
-
Congrats and even better to have your daughter with you! A memory that will never be forgotten!!
-
Awesome work and badazz crew. Really sad I wasn't part of this. Congrats!
-
Congrats! That's so awesome. A successful billy harvest is a success 100% of a time in goat country. Glad everyone made it out safe.
