Swing and a miss! Thought I would draw Antelope for sure this year. Must have been some point creep there.
GOOD LUCK YA ALL.

Congratulations to your family! You are in for a great year and a full freezer.

Congrats! You'll have a busy fall. No sheep tag for me & just bought another point for elk.

No first choice draws, which was expected based on where my seed number fell that I wasn't getting a tag in the 25% pool. And don't have the points to draw any of my first choices in the 75% pool. So no surprises there. I did draw second choice buck and elk rifle tags, which I wasn't expecting based on my seed number meaning fewer people must have applied for those tags as second choice this year. Now to wait for the rest of the group to check their results so we know what all hunts we're going on this year.....

Does Oregon take your points when you draw second choice?

No. You only lose points for a 1st choice draw in Oregon.
Unfortunately, Utah takes points for any level of choice 1-5.....I made that mistake for Utah last year. Oops.

good old goose egg for me just like WA. I put in for a lesser unit that I have hunted for the last 17 years. can't catch a break.
-
My son drew his rifle elk tag this year

Not selected across the board... again. Come on ID!
Curious to take a look at how many points were used in the new controlled elk archery draws.

I drew first time applying. I’m thinking it depends on how many hunters want to hunt a specific unit. I hardly ever run into another elk hunter.

I'm sure a lot of guys did... I'm not concerned with how many points it took to draw, but how many guys sitting on 10+ points that had been putting in for rifle tags and using OTC archery as the fall back plan now burned points to hunt archery for "their unit". Tag numbers they set for elk seemed as though drawing as a second choice may not be guaranteed.

Even if they burned 5+ points I would think will have some impact on several hunts (thinking non big 3).
Anyway, end of thread hijack :chuckle:

Not selected for me, and I am curious to see the results as well. I'm sitting on a few points but did not want to burn them on the unit I usually hunt since it went to draw for archery so I put it as a second choice and didn't get it. Had I put it first choice, I know I would have been selected. Definitely changes the strategy for Oregon a bit. I now need to consider if I still buy one of the general tags or not, and go hunt it with 3K other people who didn't draw what they wanted

Drew Eagle Cap Zone archery.

This is an interesting point that will take another year or two to fully play out. The OR strategy of OTC archery as fall back just became much more difficult. Maybe that is a good thing for archery hunting and the quality of the archery hunt will go up with fewer hunters.

Hate being “that guy” but where on the my-odfw site do you find your results? I apologize asking the question, I’m certain it’s right in front of my face.
-
Sign into your account and look under controlled hunts
On your phone look under Recreational Portfolio, then “view hunt wins”.

struck out, 18 pts across the board now but as a non res..........i think my odds are worse now than when i had 6pts. should of cashed in then

Dang. I assume you are putting in for a rifle hunt in one of the big 3?
-
Who is still planning on archery OTC? My unit went to draw only, and with not buying a idaho tag I’m kinda stuck hunting oregon. But it looks like a lot of the units still open are sage/lowland units

I will be on the Eastside somewhere since I didn't draw. Have to do some homework to figure out where.

Unfortunately a decent eastern OTC unit is no more. I'd head west if I were doing Oregon OTC this year.

18 points ain't gonna cut it in those units for a long time with a rifle. I know of a guy who finally drew with 25.

Agreed. I know a guy that drew walla walla like 7-8 years ago and it took him either 19 or 20.
-
Anyone here have or previously had the Ukiah rifle tag? Headed down to help a friend, will be my first time in the unit looking forward to seeing some new country

Jeez man. Are you trying to kill people? :chuckle:

No, not the big 3 trying to draw a certain muzz bull tag. I use to try for walla walla but gave up once i figured out non res really don't ever pull those tags and the creep is killing the residents also. Might go with the Snake River next year if I can find some help on that hunt.
