Yes definitely a bit of an understatement. It would be nice if they would let you put in on the alternate list in your group so people didn’t get stuck going alone or not at all because the rest of their party can’t go.I’m really hoping for a low number for at least two of us in our group so we can start making plansIsn't everybody :chuckle: .

If there’s 400 tags available do they make it available for the first 400 on there profile or how does it work ?As tags are returned they go to number 1 on the list and then number two and so on. It could be 10 tags or it could total a thousand tags. No way of knowing the amount but I suspect it will be more than normal this year.

Well, this is interesting. My group had such bad luck at trying to draw a regular tag, that MT had to rub our noses in it even more. Out of 2,704 alternates, we hold #2133, 2161, 2573 and 2659.Curious if you all signed up for the tag late in the sign up period?

If I remember right, I signed us all up in the first couple of days. Was looking for the reverse of what you are asking. LOL That thought didn't work very good either. Oh well, thank God for OR and ID for some other tags to hunt, not sure that we would have been able to swing a MT deer hunt in early November anyways.

So lets say on the 1st they drew all the alternate #'s, if there are 600 available then on the 2nd they would email/call the first 600? Then after 10 days, there are 300 available, so they call/email the next 300? If that is how its done then Flaming should have received a call/email by now unless there wasn't 24 available...... ?
I called MT Fish and Game this morning. The guy I talked to told me the first emails will go out next week.
He also told me they gave out 156 deer permits last year, as part of the Alternate List.

The 156 was for the deer tag only combo license. The big game combo that includes deer and elk will be a much higher number because so many more of those combos are sold and allotted. You need to make sure you applied in the alternate list in the exact same way you applied for your combo license or you are screwed. For instance, if you applied for a deer/elk combo license in the main draw and we’re unsuccessful, and then you applied on the alternant list for deer only, you will be moved to the back of the line of all other applicants. If your name comes up and you applied for the deer/elk combo, you can’t tell them you just want deer or elk only. You have to take the entire license with both tags.two years ago when I was in the mid 400’s I didn’t apply before in the general draw and was in front of people that did? Maybe they screwed things up that year. That was when they accidentally posted the list in order off when you applied for it

I just purchased my alternate Deer Combo on line. I never got a call or e mail FYI and it said I had from 8-4 to 8-8 to purchase it. Luckily I went on HUNT WA today and was looking around forums and clicked on this one to see the line was moving. So I just now went on my MT account and there was the tag for purchase. So guys you better keep checking each day on your MT accounts.
Thank you for the heads up that it is a 5 day window. i thought it was longer.

started at #246 for the big game combo and moved to 73 last week and now to #23 as of today.

Soon as these outfitters turn in the unused tags that list will start flyin, problem is they slackin and prob won’t be till next week when it’s too late for most non res to get out there, sad. Holdin those tags hostage almost.I sure hope you heard that from a credible source. I’m going to have my bags packed and let the family know now I’m probably missing Thanksgiving. Probably getting my hopes up for nothing but at least it sounds like there could be a chance
