I’ve been out several times this past week and it seems like there are basically no berries. I’m on the NW side of the state and have been from sea level to 5k and haven’t seen one patch of ripe berries. Up high it seemed like all the berry plants were just flowering. Has anyone else had this experience or have y’all been finding them? (Not asking where, just curious as to if they are actually ripe yet) All the places I’ve looked seem like it will still be another month at least before the berries are ripe.

The big seedy black berries are coming on good but still really green.

I’ve seen the same down really low. Everything seems to be coming in but it’s almost as if the berries are just starting to bloom.

I just picked a quart of blackberries. Plenty ripe on south facing bushes.
Red huckleberries are just about done for the year, down low anyway. But it was a good crop.

I finally got a decent batch of wild blackberries. Like said above their on south facing slopes, the best pockets i found were on the backside of old slashpiles not in direct sun all day. I think because they came on so late the ones with direct exposure didn't develop fully before they ripened and were tiny.

I was up around 2500 feet on these I believe

I think late August into September is the typical and normal time for berries to be coming on in NW Washington. I think we have had several odd or early berry seasons as of late due to low snow pack or early hot summers. This year is an above average snow pack and a "normal" summer, as in not 90F till July. Therefore the berries are back on a "normal" ripening of later august into September. That is just my 2 cents.

We've gotten several gallons of prime hucks and we picked trailing blackberries on the wetside up north 2 weeks ago. They're definitely ripe berries right now.

I live at 1k feet, we don't have ripe blackberries yet.

I have some picker friends who are scoring higher up around 4-5K.

Seeing some blackberries come in now. My daughter bear last week was still eating the red huckleberrys.

We were up in NE WA last weekend and the huckleberries were ripe from about 4200-4500 ft.
