Here are a few shots of Pintails from several weeks back. My wife & I got married at the end of March, and honeymooned down at the Lower Klamath and Tulelake National Wildlife Refuges, on the CA/OR border. We drove around during the days looking at all the awesome waterfowl that was there. She's a real sport to actually want to spend a honeymoon at a waterfowl refuge!
By the way, if I ever shoot a superbly plumaged Pintail drake, I'd seriously consider using photos #1 or #2 as a reference to give my taxidermist - I'd love a fine Pintail to be mounted in a dramatic flight position like that.

After these guys I don't even want to post mine. AWESOME

Doug, we've gotta get together and shoot ducks sometime. There are alot of good areas in this state. I think the Moses Lake area isn't too far from you. There are many ducks there - I don't know how good the photo ops are there, but that area certainly has the subjects.

those pintail photos are mesmerizing...

Thanks . . . Pintails are one of my favorites. Unfortunately, they are one of only a few species that are practically impossible to photograph here in the Omak area, so I have to travel for them. A Klamath trip, or a trip over to the Seattle area, is about my only chance to 'shoot' them.
-
WAY COOL
-
Snipe, are there any particular duck species you'd like to see? I don't have any sea ducks yet, but should be able to help with most of the others.

Here's one up close.(https://hunting-washington.com/cpg/albums/userpics/11157/DSC00406.jpg)

Tom, lots of pintail in the bays east of anacortes along with greenwings. A chance for some sea ducks as well during the winter.
-

Thanks, lokidog! I'll make good use of the tip. No sea ducks over here, so help with them is appreciated. And of course the Pintails. We have good numbers of Greenwings here, but I've never really set up for them properly, and therefore have very few images I'm pleased with.
Here are a few more duck pics for Snipe:

That's funny I was thinking the same thing except in my case it's true. I never get tired of seeing the shots you guys put up.

Awesome Teal shots, Wes! I love that warm light on them. They're a species that have never been easy for me. Very nicely done.
-
not amazing quality but here are some from mom and dads front yard and a secret pond.... :chuckle:

Thanks Tom. My wood duck spot usually has a pair or two of teal, cinnamon or green wing, you never know what will show up. The most frustrating is the hen hooded merganser that never brings her mate. Do you have any drake hooded merganser shots you would share?

Of course! I'd never gotten any Hooded Merg drake images that I was happy with until this past spring, when the ice was breaking up at the mouth of the Methow River, where it joins the Columbia. I found the breaking up of the ice to be an excellent opportunity to photograph a variety of diving ducks. It was darn cold, though. See the funky stuff on the front of the drake's head in the first pic? It's ice. There was probably some stuck to my head, too :).
-
Thanks Tom, those are some great shots. Hoodies are one of my favorite ducks.

Thanks, Wes
If you want to 'shoot' them, feel free to come on up next Feb/March - I'd be glad to set you up in a blind.

How about a White Faced Tree Duck? :dunno:

That's cool and exotic and all, but how about a mallard in a Bellevue park!!! :chuckle:
