Title: School me on flat beds.
Post by: Trigger05-11 on September 11, 2022, 03:27:25 PM
I have a 2005 Dodge 3500 Diesel SRW. It’s in great shape other than a couple dents on the bed. Always wanted an aluminum flat bed with stake pockets so I can do tall rails on the bed for cutting wood.  Really like the Pro Tech beds. Truck is only used for wood cutting, hunting, towing and woods trips. Not a daily driver.

Anybody make this switch, or have a flat bed? What are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks so much!

Heard they resonate alot of noise and cause alot of excess noise in cab while driving. That was an aluminum flatbed on a 99 cummins manual tranny. Don't know anything other than about the truck? Like exhaust and stuff?

I love my flatbeds but not sure if I’d want one in a srw because of payload you might not be able to utilize the flatbed. The bed will also be higher than your pickup bed. If payload and height isn’t an issue and you want one, go for it. I prefer steel beds as it is easy for me to weld and customize to my needs. Flatbeds are pretty versatile and putting toolboxes underneath is pretty handy for storage. I’d encourage you to put a dump on it too. I can’t imagine not having a flatbed dump after having one for the last 20 years. Good luck

If your truly going to use it as a wood and work flatbed go with steel.

I have a C&M steel flat bed on my F450. Love It. Would never go back to a box. Paint job on alĺ of them kind of suck after a few years but very versatile. I have 4 tool boxes under and added a big box on top. Great addition  to my 450

Hauls it great. How fast do you want to go. Truck doesnt care. 3 axles with 16in rotors and electric over hydraulic brakes. Stops really good. Usually stay at 60 or less but alot more power for more speed and hills dont slow me down. Pulling the hills to and from lapush even out of cresent lake i can accelerate  all the way to the top.

I'm kind of impressed with highway products flatbeds, I've seen some really nice aluminum flatbeds from them

hopefully they haven't gone to crap, prolly very high dollar though  :o
