Title: need help picking 34mm scope rings
Post by: Idaho_Elk_Huntr on September 30, 2022, 09:57:23 PM: I have a scope with a 34 mm tube and 56 Objective. Can anyone tell me what height rings I need?

RMEF Weatherby Vanguard 6.5x300

Vortex Venom 5x25x56

Haven't bought bases or rings. Need both

It has been a few years since I have set up a new rifle., Don't remember 34 mm tubes. All Cabelas had was Vortex medium height rings.

Maybe call or visit Black Sheep Idaho.

Post by: Weaklink on October 01, 2022, 12:57:08 PM: I mounted a Venom to my Rem 700. First I put on a rail, but it blocked the access to the chamber by a bit. Maybe my rail did not have enough cut-out, dunno. I switched-back to a two-piece base, much better chamber access.

Used Warne Steel rings. I have several pairs of Warne; I like their design with the clamp screw on the top, and the fact they are steel and reasonable priced. Think I used medium.

Highs are only 1/10 inch higher. Totally skip a rail mount.(Unnecessary)

Talley aren’t even in the same league as any of the other rings mentioned. I had Talley, they flex and bend. Wasn’t impressed. My buddy lapped his and watching them flex I said never again

I told him not to, he didn’t listen. I’m just not impressed with them compared to the nightforce ultralight. Especially on a heavy recoil gun, I would imagine a 6.5-300 belts you.

Post by: buckfvr on October 01, 2022, 06:18:43 PM: Although I do believe the Talley light weight would stand up to 6.5-300, and I have Talley light weight on a 6.5 cm light weight storm (<6.5lb w/scope). I think if I was running the very heavy scope he mentioned in the op, I would opt for a heavier more significant ring-rail configuration. If He was running a much lighter hunting scope, Id say Talley all the way. :twocents:

Post by: royalbull on October 17, 2022, 07:58:04 PM: American rifle company makes some nice rings, if you install a rail first they have a cheat sheet where you just stack pennies up and then set your scope at the clearance you want, depending on the amount of pennies you use will determine what height rings to buy

I'm dealing with a set of talley rings right now that for whatever reason do not appear to be holding a 34mm Leupold scope on a suppressed 300wsm. Talley told me to up the torque spec to 25 in/lb on the caps...and that is still not working. Based on this very (frustrating) recent experience, I'd opt for other quality rings (e.g., nightforce, seekins, etc.). I've not had this issue with other talley's, but I've not used such a large/heavy scope before either. My :twocents:
