I saw some loads for IMR3031 and I have a bit of it and thought about trying it.

For me kind of depends on bullet weight.  Have used H414, H380, 4895 in the past with good results but my current 12tw 22-250 I've been shooting 53gr Vmax and RL17 with really good results.

I sure wish re 17 wasn’t so temp sensitive.  I’ve got a bunch of it and have some awesome loads developed with it but man is it temp picky

It is definitely more temp sensitive than many other powders, especially, when compared to some of the Hodgdon Extreme powders or some of the other RL powders like 16 and 23 but RL17 gets a bad rep for being a lot more temp sensitive than it really is.  I will say this about RL17 and maybe this has caused people to think it's much more temp sensitive than it really is, but one of the quirks about RL17 I've learned is it doesn't give you the conventional characteristics of nearing max load like most powders do when you're working up a load.  It'll go along showing little to no signs of pressure as you're increasing your load doing a pressure test then all at once go from no pressure to quite a bit overpressure with a very small change.

Very first time I ever used RL17 I allowed myself to get velocity intoxication and it's easy to do with RL17 because it does produce great velocities and I got a little drunk on the numbers the chronograph was reading and since I really wasn't seeing any obvious signs of pressure I continued on with my pressure test with the next higher charge weight and blam I got all of the signs at once.  I had heavy bolt lift, pretty pronounced ejector mark, primer wasn't pierced but it was cratered a good amount and pretty flat.  Silly on my part because the smith that built that particular rifle had just told me he liked 17 but to be careful with it and don't get velocity drunk because his experience with RL17 was it didn't always give you a whole lot of warning.  I keep that in mind and even though I don't use all that much 17 I haven't had any issues since.

I would completely agree.  Great speed and accuracy with close to max loads   Then whammy.  I’ve seen as much as 50 fps change in just as many degrees temp change also.

H380 for me also.  38gr.  Easy to remember and very accurate.

Bruce Hodgdon developed H-380 specifically for the 22-250. I use 39 grains behind 52-55 gr bullets. Great accuracy!
