Title: Rifle eastside elk!?
Post by: Jakobv on October 12, 2022, 05:57:42 PM
Hello my name is Jake,

I am taking my brother in law (brand new to hunting) on an eastside elk hunt, he has chosen rifle! I hunt elk in September with my bow, and have never hunted elk in the end of October let alone with a rifle….. so I assume late October and early September are worlds apart….
I am asking for some tips and tricks and any past success… I would love to hear about it, as I said it will be eastside elk with a rifle.

Thanks

I like hunting open sage country with big draws and little mixed timber. I hike the canyons about 3/4 way up and do alot of glassing. If you find a herd of around 10, a lot of times there will be a spike with them. You can use the vantage points and pressure if other hunters to spot moving elk and try and intercept them. My daughters spike 2 years ago was taken like this when some other hunters spooked them right to us as we were watching them aways out.
