First time poster, long time lurker of the forum.
My 11yr old son just passed his hunter safety and has it in his mind that he really wants to try and get a turkey for thanksgiving. I've never hunted turkey and I'm feeling a bit lost. Spent last weekend scouting and didn't find any. Wanted to reach out to see if anyone can help to point us in a good direction.
Tough for me to post this, I'm pretty stubborn and like to spend the time and work figuring it out for myself. Id love to get my son started off on a fun foot.
Thanks for any help!

Look up the turkey pamphlet on the wdfw website.
Look at the harvest numbers.
For success, hunt where the birds are. NE corner.
Some places are just infested with them.
If you ask for permission for a youth turkey hunt, many landowner will let you.
It's a long drive, but the stats don't lie.
You can certainly hunt closer, but your odds of success go wayyyyyyyy down.
Just north from Spokane and you are in the birds.
Good luck.

Kinda hard to get landowner permissions with the elk/late deer hunts coming up. Just drive up hwy 25 from Ft. Spokane north and you'll see plenty of birds. Long drive over though.

First off where are you scouting? The far east side of the state is about the only thing open now for fall. I would bot worry about not knocking on door for hunting turkeys out un that area. They hate turkeys that much especially with a youth. Make sure that he is with. Scouting in the fall is pretty easy because they will be in much bigger flocks in the fall. I know Okanogan is no open in the fall but I think it is a short season early fall like Klickitat. Good luck
