Maybe I’ll catch some flack for this but this is my opinion and you did a whole lot of things wrong.
To the 3 young men in the white ford with dealer plates, if your on here you know who you are. I’ll congratulate you on bagging the 4x4 bull, but what I won’t do is congratulate you on is not meeting the requirements for wearing blaze orange (at least one of you was wearing a vest). Nor the fact that you jumped over not 1 but 2 separate barbed fences going into private land (which per the land owner you didn’t have permission to be on).
But the one that irks me the most is that you shot and wounded the spike bull (your first target) continued to pump rounds at him until the big bull stood up and you changed your target. I will not congratulate you for taking 13 shots at 2 bulls to ONLY pursue one kill, apparently you need more time behind the scope before buying a license. There’s no excuse for only stopping with one downed animal when you shot and wounded both.
I really hope by next year you have a more ethical approach. As a side note, not that cool to slip under a guy that’s been watching said bulls for 4 hours, which is maybe my mistake on being focused on them. That’s all, my opinion you should feel crappy. I sure hope to see you trespassing again tomorrow to find your spike.

Well, that’s horrible. Not you for pointing it out, but them. Good grief. No wonder ‘hunters’ get a bad rep.
-
Dealer plates like DLR plates or dealer plates like they just bought the truck??
-
Those people aren't on HW, this site is like 10% of WA hunters at best, and I like to think it's the better part of the hunters for the most part.

Like DLR. clearly not the brightest crayons in the box.

Seems like you should file a report if multiple rules were broken? :dunno:

Agreed, call the man. Hopefully you have the plate info.

Nothing to report. Lack of blaze orange? Guys wound animals all the time. Trespassing is up to the landowner if he wants to file which I will give him the plate info and location. I guarantee that he’ll find 13 empty casings on the hillside for proof that they were there.
-
Video does wonders for investigations. If they are tresspassing and kill an animal they are poaching.

That's for you to decide, not fish and game? Great job doing nothing about it. Keep up the, uh, good work?
-
Problem is in this state people think trespassing is not that big of a deal. Hunters that don't follow up on game they shot at is uncalled for. Shooting 13 times at animals seems to be just throwing lead out there hoping to hit something, and not doing right by the animal by know what your and guns capabilities are and hunt within those. Just my opinion.
-
Call it in with all the info you have, talk to the land owner and let him know what you are doing. Get your points (I know, do it for the right reason)

I'm a little confused.
Witnessed multiple possible criminal violations and the decision to non report.
Let Leo decide if it's worthy of investigation.
And often these aren't isolated offenses. It's possible there are other reports of the same group, and all's Leo needs is that one final tip to break the investigation wide open. :twocents:
-
Wow. I was with you until you didn’t report it and said there was no reason to report it. There are a crap ton of reasons to report it.
-
I agree with jackelope, why would u not report it? And the possibility of getting 10 pts as well!
-
Is there an offense that was committed that would qualify for 10 points?
Not that it matters whether they should have been turned in or not. Just curious.
-
This was not their first set of violations. It should be their last.
-
Me personally would have had a talk with them first. Then decide based on that. Either way it shouldnt be happening and they need educated in many ways.
-
Points shouldn’t matter.
-
Your right, but its an added bonus
-
:yeah: Pnts have no meaning to me. I dont play lottery. I also believe in handling stuff personally first then involve LEO in need be. Im old school, sorry. Landowner needs to know first n foremost. Also they need to explain selves. R they dumb or crooked? If I owned land I would be pissed and contact LEO I think. No disrespect to your decisions. I understand the conundrum.
-
And yes if they crossed on to private, shot 2 bulls and recovered 1 of them then absolutely thats poaching and the OP could get bonus points. Let's be clear here I am not just out for the points but its clearly known if you turn in a poacher, points are given out.
-
Was this in an any bull unit in NE Washington? Are you sure they didn't come back for the spike? Like others, I would have tried to talk to the guys to see if they were bad dudes or just some average guys that made some bad decisions and needed some education. I personally would have also went and tried to recover the spike if they didn't come back for it just to ensure the meat wasn't wasted.
-
UPDATE:
They came back out first thing this morning this time only wearing orange hats, my guess to find/ finish off the spike (or another animal). I met with the ranch owner this morning and discussed what took place last night and what he would like to do as it’s his property. I have a few F&G officers cell numbers so he ultimately decided he wanted to give them a call for at least trespassing. It is an any elk unit so it’s not poaching the animal, unless they didn’t have tags then yes it’s poaching. F&G had them for a while so I’m guessing there was more going on then just blaze citation and trespassing.
The rancher told me they weren’t permitted to be there as they have hunters that pay good money to access their property to hunt. The land owner I was permitted on has some pieces in the same area. The rancher didn’t think it was right that I got permission from another land owner to hunt and these guys came in and did what they wanted since the bull could have dropped into the property I was permitted on. So my guess is the rancher is moving forward with charges.
If more info comes about I’ll keep this updated.

They downed the bull at last light while the spike limped over the hill. They came back this morning. If they didn’t come back my intention was to talk to the land owner and pursue it, if it was dead see about getting a salvage tag for it.

As for tresspassing not being a big deal. You can set this squarly on the land ownwers, most up here don't seem eager to press charges. They call the sherrif to report tresspassers and when the culprits are caught. The landowner will not press charges. The culprts are given a warning by the deputy, and sent on their way. :twocents:

Good for you ,turning them in.
I've only seen one violation this year.
No orange.
Two guys on a clear Cut.
One with rifle on shooting sticks, clearly hunting.
Other with binos.
No orange on them at all.
-
In this scenario the trespassing is a big game violation that you’d receive 10 points for.

Legally the only one who needed the orange was the one with the rifle

Incorrect number one they people have to be convicted “found guilty “ in court , and the amount of points changes and is wardens discretion on how many
-
And I’ll add the points thing shouldn’t even matter , I think doing the right thing should be above trying to get a few extra points on the lottery system
-
To be honest I don’t put in for the lottery here (just multisession) since I just started big game 3 years ago, at this point I’d just be dealing with points creep. If I get points I’ll put it in a OIL tag and call it good and hope it hits but no feeling hurt if I don’t. I believe they plan on pressing charges, he wasn’t to happy they shot the bulls on his property. My guess if they were just walking charges wouldn’t be pressed but given a warning hard to say though

That’s a negative ghost rider. All that has to happen is that they are charged. Whether or not their convicted doesn’t matter.

Well innocent until proven guilty , can’t imagine a percent who beat a charge would also get you your so beloved points . All I’m saying is the points shouldn’t matter for doing the right thing

Bob is correct, charges simply need to be filed in order for points to be given. Especially in today's judicial world of "alternative case dispositions" such as deferrals, stipulated order of continuances, etc. flat-out convictions are becoming rarer and rarer.
