Any recommendations on a decent company to rent a satellite phone from?
-
In 2003 I used Day Wireless to rent a Sat phone to take on an Elk hunt because I had a baby due around the same time. Had them add voicemail so I could check each morning and evening, then call and check in each night. It was kinda spendy, but worth every penny for peace of mind. I think it was $400-500 bucks for month. I use Garmin InReach now. :twocents:

I've also had a good experience with Day Wireless for a week-long reservation.

i rented a sat phone in Alaska. Was not impressed. Everyone up there has gone to a In-Reach. I would recommend renting one of them instead

Appreciate the input thanks!

Costco has the Inreach mini for about $249. Everyone should own one. Its the first piece of gear you should buy - with it you can call your buddy/wife to bring in anything else you need or pick you up or send tow truck or lifeflight.
If you have a great wife you can updates your favorite team playing - just don't ask every 2 minutes !

I agree. It's at the point where this technology is so affordable that I think pretty much everyone with a family needs to own it.

New iphones have emergency only satellite texting starting this month. T-mobile will be offering sat texting thru starlink soon. Til then Inreach is your huckleberry.

Or Zoleo

If you hunt out of cell coverage every year, it's worth the investment. My wife bought me one for Christmas about 4 years ago. Every year I'm glad I have it for one thing or another.

You can probably get an older InReach on eBay for even cheaper. I still use the old Delorme version I bought when Garmin bought them and rebranded and launched their first units. The older ones go on super sale.

Thanks everyone, I do have an inreach mini. That's the preferred method of communication for the transporter I'm using. Ordered the phone from the satellite store.
Some fyi info.
Will have it for about 3 weeks with 50 min. of outgoing air time for about 350$. Thanks again for the input.

Yea I have an old Delorme Inreach / prob 5 or 6 years old still works great.

I bought a Garmin Inreach mini II for a 13 day solo mule deer hunt I just got back from and it worked flawlessly the whole trip
Got it on Amazon for under $400 and activate it for a month at a time. These are a no brained to have in your pack

Zoleo costs half that

Is it the II?

Sorry, not sure. I already had one so didn't pay attention too much.
