Anybody here hunt the Willapa hills unit ? Modern firearm
-
I'm heading up that way this weekend.
-
Yeah been hunting since Saturday and been putting on the miles, nothing to show for it yet.
-
I also have been here since Saturday with nothing to show for it. I’ve been on a couple herds but no legal bulls, just spikes. It’s been kind of a slow season, I normally see a lot more elk.
-
Yeah that’s how we feel too. We’ve been seeing elk just nothing legal yet, hopefully these next few days are good to us!
-
Yeah hopefully we can all fill our tags in the next couple days.
Ive seen a handful of bulls in the back of trucks

Slow where I was this weekend. Lots of elk spotted but no bulls. Had my chance on a bull opening morning but missed all my shots on it. Was a bit of a stretch especially since I'm normally a archery hunter but have been blessed with a multi season tag. Talked to the game warden that morning and he said reports have been spotty. Elk being killed here and there but not a slam dunk anywhere it seems. Good luck everyone!

Very similar experience in a nearby unit. Saw 30 elk on Tuesday, not a single bull. Is this normal? Last year was my first time hunting over there and I shot one 3 days into the season- also had been seeing a lot of animals.
Also curious how most people hunt these units successfully? Road hunt and glass clear cuts, walk in and hunt clear cuts, hunt the timber (how the heck do you know which timber to hunt!!?), hunt creek bottoms between ridges. Does anyone find lone bulls that recovering from the rutt? Ran into a LOT of hunters this year.
I do feel like the nice weather and full moon did us no favors the last few days.
