Hunting in a 3point min unit I saw a bull that had unbranched spikes maybe 16-18 inches long. He also had these strange gnarled masses at the base of each spike, with 2 tines sticking out of each one. On one side, the tines were well over 1 inch long. Do the main antler beams have to be branched, or is that bull a shooter?

Isn't it that one has to be above the ear tip?

Count the points and if there are more than 3 on one side it's going in the freezer.
From the Regs.
3 Point Minimum:
A 3PT. Min. elk means that a legal elk in these GMUs must have at least 3 antler points on one side. Eye guards are antler points when they are at least one inch long. A 1x3 and a 2x3 are legal elk in a 3 pt min unit. Antler restrictions apply ot all hunters during any open season."

Yeah, I was thinking he was technically legal…but didn’t feel 100% about it. On the bright side, I might have another chance tomorrow.
