Has anyone been out on the firing center lately? My sons tag opens in a few weeks and I’m just curious what the elk numbers are looking like out there.

Foggy as all get out today. If you're heading to the northern units I recommend having chains.
-
Has any one connected yet
-
I heard there were 5-6 killed the first few days.
-
My son was the only one to kill on the opener. I know of 2 killed on day two. There was some tribal kills both days.

Chains will be a real good idea. The Wenas is an ice block. Temps hanging at 31 to 32 and raining, but ground just came off of sub zero temps. Gravity is a real biotch

It's 40 at RC, snows turning to slop. Better stay on graveled roads, the secondary dirt roads with be going to he!!, shortly. :twocents:

Well done! Congrats to the happy little guy!

Thanks guys. He's pretty proud of his first elk. He's had a good season for his first big game season. A doe, a buck, and cow elk. I'll be very interested to get her age back. She was very emaciated and tough as a shoe. I've eaten meat from hundreds of big game animals and she is the first one I'd consider inedible using normal butchering processes. All burger, braising, and jerky out of this old girl :chuckle:
Fun pic JonathanS took of us right before the shot. Tough stalk through the frozen snow in the wide open. Got just inside 200 yards and figured that was good enough.
