I have a buddy I work with from the Craigmont area and he just went and checked his trap line and found this beauty! Not sure of the exact area. He said there appears to be about six or seven in the group by the tracks and he's gonna continue to target them. He is getting reimbursed expenses through the F4WM.
-
Nice. Good job!
-
That is awesome! and F4WM is a great group to join

Love seeing these posts. Huge well done!

Great work by your buddy. Thanks for sharing.
Joining F4WM is a great way to help them with their efforts.

For the reimbursement program do you have to forfeit the hide or anything?

Not that I'm aware of. Photos and receipts on almost anything you use to kill the wolf is reimbursed up to $1000+, this includes gun cost, fuel, snacks, traps, snowshoes, all of it.

He said just by the tracks in the snow that one of the other ones dwarfs the two he's already gotten. That or it's a club footed weirdo... Lol
-
Excellent!
-
Heck ya
-
Everyone needs to join FW4M to help support these trappers. Only chance we have of the next generation hunting OTC like we do.
-
Nicely done, he definitely has the learning curve down.👍
-
Awesome catch. Every one reading this make sure to join the F4WM. Its the least you can do. $40 a year. They also have banquets coming up you can go and donate and win prizes.
-
Awesome!! Next time you chat with him, ask him what traps he's using and what type of sets he is catching them in. :)
-
That 2nd one is pretty big, if there is another bigger in the pack holy S#$%T!!
-
He said he caught one on a snare and the other was with a 650 Duke, slightly modified, bigger chain, on a dirt hole coyote setup just bigger footprint. Set back a little further apart for a bigger dogs stance and used fox urine for a lure is all. He said it had a great deep pad hold on the dog.
-
Sweet!!!! Thanks!
-
He usually brings his hounds out with him and let's them run around a bit in the general area before he sets up so that they can spread their scent around. I know another guy who caught five a couple years ago who goes around all summer and keeps ziplocs in his rig so when he comes across an area with lots of wolf scat he collects a bunch of it and then when he sets up he puts some of that wolf scat from another territory near the set. It pisses off the local pack and he feels they tend to come around his sets more thinking another pack has come into their area. Kind of like letting the hounds pee on everything before setting up. Has to work at least a little for luring them in to find that mystery dog in their territory. :dunno:
-
I've also heard of guys colleting their hounds/dogs bedding all summer and fall and using that at sets for the same reasons. The guy who collects th scat is hopefully aware of the danger in collecting their scat and takes precautions not to breath in any of the dust when he's handling the scat. Pretty scary parasites in the wolf's scat.
-
Got another one! In a snare and wrapped itself up on a tree.
-
Now thats something to see
-
He didn't send a pic of him holding it but I think it was a smaller one.
-
Another one bites the dust
-
Awesome, saved some deer right there
-
Hell yeah! They’ve seemed to be spread out this year. only seen evidence from one pack in 10 this year and most sign I saw overall was in the Selway.
-
He said it appeared that the pack in this particular area was already replaced since he has been trapping them. He said the tracks seem to show atleast 9-10 in the group and he had them down to about 5 last winter. :dunno:
-
Very nice!!!! :IBCOOL:
-
Your buddy is killing it!!!! Nice work.
-
Winter is probably the best time of year?
-
That’s awesome. I hunted unit 39 northern part a few years ago and saw lots of wolf tracks. I would love to get back up there
-
Wolf slayer.
-
nice work!
-
Dialed in! We owe him a drink
-
-
Woowzer.👍
What’s he do with the pelts?
-
We need a like button
-
He has a buyer but I believe he has kept a few of the black ones. I think this last one was almost solid black so he will probably keep it as well. He gets several bobcat a year also and some other stuff. Mostly out of units 14 & 15 and I think back into 19.
-
I’m impressed, I know there people out there doing us all a favor. But, it’s inspiring to see. I love setting trap, I could only imagine how exciting it would be to trap wolves. Tell him thanks!
-
@Machias have you been able to get any traps set since you moved over there?
-
I've always wanted a black one.
-
@Machias have you been able to get any traps set since you moved over there?
Just coyotes and beaver, no wolf traps yet. Knees cannot handle the physical demands of wolf trapping.

Right, my buddy said he didn't bring the sled on the last trip to check his line and spun out about 2 miles from this last wolf set and almost went back home for the day to get the sled and come back. He ended up having to pack the wolf out 2 miles in the snow. He said he was soaked when he got back but skinned it out anyways while it was still warm. H said usually people prefer not to do that but I guess it wasn't bad.

Buy that man a beer, every wolf down is a plus for all other animals!

:yeah: Great work! The state of Idaho knows there needs to be a balance, they have F and G folks who get it along with politicians that also get it. Once again tell him thank you 👍
-
I told him about everyone's compliments and he said tell everyone thanks. I ended up making a deal with him to get my hands on this one and took it to Fuson's Taxidermy in Suncrest. He is a great guy to deal with and I enjoy going in his shop and chatting with him. I am just having a taxi tan done on it for now. Maybe later I will talk my cousin into doing a full body mount with it. Boy is that expensive! $3500-$4000...
-
I love dead wolves, cougars and bears.
-
And another one!
-
I have family that hunts out that way...They talk a lot about all the wolves.
-
Great color on that one.
Congrats to the hunter/trapper.
-
He got a coyote on one set. Targeting wolves though.
-
And another one!
And another beer! :brew:
-
I have spent a lot of time in 15 and it’s overrun with wolves. Hear them and see sign but only have seen one. That area needs the help. Thanks for what he is doing and keep it up!
-
Have seen tracks, but haven't seen a wolf yet. Always have a tag, just in case.
-
Hell ya !!!
-
Hope he gets them all. I’m in the general location and have seen what they do. It is not good. Unless you like to walk around the woods and not see animals.
