Is it necessary to purchase the general Idaho hunting license before the tags go up for sale tomorrow? I think I understand how their Que system works, so I'll be sure to log in between 8:30 and 9AM so that I'm given a random number. Once my number comes up, I'm able to select a tag for the unit or zone I want (assuming it's still available) and then I have 20 minutes to make my purchase. Isn't 20 minutes plenty of time to buy the license and the tag (assuming their system isn't overloaded and bogged down with every other hunter trying to make a purchase also)? If I don't get a tag I want, I'd really prefer not to be stuck with the cost of a license I had previously bought. I know the license will be required in the future when the controlled hunt drawing is done next year, but not sure I'll be putting in for any controlled hunts for that June drawing. It all depends on what the other guys I'll be hunting with decide to do. It's all new to us.

If you are going to enter controlled draws in spring buy your license in the morning - or choose auto renew. If not wsit to see if you can draw a good enough zone. If your below 8000 (out of 20,000+) you may be sol.

yeah, 4 of us are going to try and buy deer tags tomorrow. First time for all of us. We'll see how that goes. who know where my number will fall in comparison to the other guys. I won't be putting in for the controlled permits in June if the other guys don't draw general tags tomorrow. Hopefully we get decent enough numbers tomorrow to all draw, but that sounds like a long shot. Would love to elk hunt Idaho in the future. Will start with deer this year and go from there.
