Yep, the new direction is that nature will take care of itself provided humans stay out. No management necessary except to keep humans from leaving the city. In fact, human management is a huge part of the problem in their mind.
If we think it's bad now, just wait until we get the new commissioners.

Yes, a year out of date and if you wrote it today all the numbers would be lower. No natural elk in the SE blues, man has changed everything there and the forest service dropped, maybe burnt, the ball decades ago. There natural plan ends it all with a flurry of nasty as things come apart.
