I drew a tag for the Copalis spring hunt. So far I've been out 5 days. I've driven roads, walked old logging roads, watched clear cuts, and ventured into the woods where it seemed promising. There has been almost no sign (scat) on the drivable roads. I've found scat on a few of old overgrown logging roads. I've seen a few peeled trees. Hunted early, late, and the rest of the day. In the 5 days, I've found sign of probably 5 different bears.
My question is, what are the successful hunters doing to get their bear? What are the habits of these bears? The hunters in the area that I've talked to haven't seen a bear.
Also, in the 5 days I haven't seen a deer either, and very few tracks.
Thanks,
Phil

There are a few threads in the bear forum on spring bear in the Copalis unit.
The biggest issue is that there is not an over abundance of bear there. Don't get me wrong, there are bears in the unit, but not the amount that you would think should warrent a damage hunt.
5 days isn't much especially if you are looking over different areas. You should probably be spending that much time in one location, preferably where the freshest sign is.
Good luck.
