I'm in the market for a 22lr in any action but bolt action. When it comes to dollars vs quality, what is the best rifle for the money?
-
Ruger 10/22 is a good one .
-
Vote for Ruger 10/22
-
Sold a 10/22 to a forum member, hope he has enjoyed it as much as I did. That would be my choice, endless options, maybe hold out for an old sporter
-
Henry lever
-
10/22 hands down. there are tons of parts and mods you can do to them. simple to tear down and clean, great 22's
-
Anyone ever tried the Winchester, Rossi, Savage, or citadel semi autos?
Lever actions are fun but all cost $300+ same as a ruger
-
I bought my wife a Savage Precision B22 with the MDT stock. It’s very accurate and we’ll built.
-
another vote for the endlessly versatile 10/22. customization is limitless
-
Henry lever
This is my vote too but they aren't cheap. Love mine
-
10/22!!

Really it probably depends on the application.

I think that was everyone's first rifle that's older than 35 :chuckle:

My favorite is an upgraded 10/22. Upgraded the rigger, barrel and release and it's an absolute tack driver. I can shoot a 5 shot group all in the same hole off the bench at 50'. I had a group under a dime at 50 yards, some of that could be due to the ammo I was shooting.

Remington Nylon 66 is another good one if you can find one.
-
Ruger Precision

Mine was actually a Mossberg 151 but it was followed closely my a Marlin 60. Still have both!
Can't go wrong with the 10/22 as stated numerous times above. They are tried, tested, and proven. Plus the adaptability of accessories rivals the AR-15

Bolt gun M77 skeleton - semi 10/22
-
10/22. All day
-
As others have mentioned, my choice would be either: Henry H001 (currently own), Ruger 10/22 or Savage M60 (previously owned)
-
Personally, I have a 10/22 and it shoots fine. My favorite was a JC Higgins Model .29, semi-auto. Accurate as all get out. I loved my bolt 103.18, too.
-
10/22's are great
-
I have both the Henry Lever and the 10/22. I shoot the Henry more than the 10/22 but if I had to pick one it would be the 10/22. It is just so versatile and the options/upgrades are almost endless. But the Henry is butter smooth and accurate.
-
An old Marlin or Browning.

My son shoots his Winchester Model 94 .22LR all the time. A nice setup.

I prefer Browning semi-autos.
A Buckmark rifle would be my current choice.

Green stocked Nylon 66 was my first long-gun as a youth and still holds high sentimental value. Great pinker. I see em on here from time to time and believe there is brown stocked one currently FS in the classifieds.
That said the 10/22 is clearly the accessory king.
For out-of-the-box accuracy either bolt gun from Ruger American or Savage with Accutrigger is hard to beat.

:yeah:
If you don't already own one, who approved your membership on this site... :chuckle:

Favorite was the Weatherby Mk22 tube feed, buttery smooth and so accurate. Definitely not best for the money though at today's prices. IMO half the fun of a .22 is having semi-auto so I gotta go 10/22 as well for bang for the buck
-
10/22 for fun and ability to trim it out how you like.
For accuracy and still being affordable? Try and find a CZ 452 FS or American. Stupid accuracy and not too picky about ammo.

Marlin 39A lever. I have a 10-22 and it shoots great but the marlin is on a different accuracy level. Ammunition does matter. Marlin's are around 600, Rugers on sale 300. Still have the Marlin 120 bolt I got for Christmas when I was 12.

Bolt win model 69 semi 10-22
-
For the money 10/22. Imo it should be one of the "guns every outdoorsman should own"
For sheer fun lever guns are where its at Win 94/22 or Ruger 96. I wish I could get that one back.

I assume your speaking of the recent model/production "econo"guns ? If so I have not . If I were to pick one of those three to try I would go savage though .
You should be able to shop around a little and find a 10/22 for a shade under $300 .
By excluding bolt actions you are going to be looking mainly at semi-auto , most all other action types are generally more $$.
Dont be afraid to go used . Unless you are set on NIB....

Kidd , Voodoo, Volquartsen or Tactical Solutions in that order . You did ask for the " Best 22 for the money :chuckle:

show me where I can pick up a 39a for 600 and I’d probably buy 2 of them. Can’t believe how much marlins have gone up in the past couple years. Kicking myself for not grabbing one at the pawn shop for $400 several years back.
My cz 452 would be one of the last guns I’d ever sell, though. I think I paid $280 for it, last one I saw was over $600…
-
Ya, Marlins, 600 was more than a couple of years ago when I quit tracking.
I think they were three something when I started looking, draging my feet, prices where going up fast I was up in Colville and they were 420, and thought I better get of the fence, I thought 460 was high when I bought. Little did I know they would skyrocket. Look how much the Henry's have gone up

I think it is tough to beat a semi-auto 22 with a wood stock and iron sights.
I shot my friends fancy 10-22 and I'd rather shoot a beat up Marlin 60. They make great camp guns.
Toss it in with your camp gear and shrug if it gets a bump or scratch.
That to me is what 22s are all about. Backyard or camp shooting with friends and family.
-
So I wanted to buy my 8 year old grandson one for Christmas this year. First "real" gun so semi autos were out. Bought a Savage Mark II at Walmart in town for $150. Got a base, had scope mounts and ordered a 3x9 off Amazon for 40 bucks (crosshairs can change colors form green to red so thought that would be cool for him). Found an old brick of Federal 36 grain hollowpoints in the garage and sighted it in Saturday in the backyard. I went on youtube and found how to adjust the crappy trigger pull-basically pulling apart the trigger assembly and cutting a coil off the spring. Works great. All in for about $220 and that is perfect for him

Well I'm a year over the limit, but mine was a Remington 512. Had a model 60 at one point, but I've never gotten rid of the Sportmaster.
-
10/22 and Henry Lever are worlds apart, but are both included in your description.
I have both, love both.
10/22 is benchrest custom and puts 25 rounds into one nickle sized hole at 25 yd.
Henry is nostalgic, smooth like butter, and I recently STONED an 800lb steer with it!
Different strokes!

My first gun Marlin Model 70.
Best rifle that $70 of paper route money could buy in 1985-ish.
Real hard to beat the 10/22 these days.

Cz457 mtr… competes with vudoo, Rimx without spending that type of money. Good luck finding one these days.

I love my CZs...There's an MTR in the classifieds right now.
