Title: Lets talk boots
Post by: HUNT JR on December 12, 2022, 08:57:48 AM
I currently have Lowa Tibet GTX boots and have been using them for years. Awesome boot. However, being a leather boot, they don't breathe as well on those early season hunts as I would like. What do you guys use for a synthetic breathable boot?

I am interested in the Idaho II from Crispi as it seems to be a good fit for me.

If you like the lowa tibets take a look at the lowa baldo gtx. Light weight and breathable.

Eastmans did a review on them that you can find at the link above.

I wear Altra Lone Peaks early season and the waterproof version later until the snow flies.  It's the most breathable boot I have worn, actually a bit too breathable if you are in super dusty areas like walking dirt roads for long distances as the dust gets through the boots.

I typically wear the least amount of boot possible.

My feet stay very comfortable early season in my Lowa Ranger GTXs. I also use a cheap sneaker/boot for really hot weather or short hikes.

Those look like they may be the ticket, should have a similar fit to the tibets.

Those boot uppers are mostly leather with a Gore liner on what looks to be tightly woven fabric, I wouldn't expect them to breathe well.  My experience is that you have to ditch the Gore liner and find much looser fabric weave to get any sort of reasonable breathability if that is what you are looking for.

I have two pairs of boots that are identical except one pair has a Gore liner and the other doesn't.  Both are 100% synthetic uppers with pretty loose weave and the breathability is night and day different, like the Gore pair essentially doesn't breathe and the other pair you can feel the air going through the upper.

Id agree with this, but I don't want to give up the liner. When i say breathable, i am looking for more breathable than my full leather boot.

I got some hoka hightop hiking shoes earlier this year. Not a stiff shank like the lowas, but comfy as hell, real good traction, light and verifiably waterproof. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221212/1220689bdc436d3d4627984534054008.jpg)

Check out the LaSportiva line. The Trango's will be most like your Tibet's, I think. The Trango last fits a low-volume foot. I've had several of their synthetic boots because they fit me well and are light. The synthetic doesn't last as long as full-grain leather, but that's part of the trade.

Gotcha, I would look for something full synthetic and as light as you can then.  Leather won't breathe and will hold in heat where at least the lighter nylon won't hold in nearly as much heat.

As noted, they won't last as long as leather apples to apples but are definitely noticeably cooler.

I'd look into the scarpa rebels, sounds like the boot your looking for.

I used to be a Lowa guy but made the move over to Crispi.

Crispi Summit are a great early season boot. Lightweight and breathable with a great sole.

I also have the Idaho II and the toe box is bigger than I am used to. I have to wear an extra pair of socks to get a good fit also they pinch above my ankle on the outside when side hilling.

I have a narrower foot, so the Summits fit me better and are a lighter weight boot. Just my 2 cents.

:yeah: I've been doing a bunch of research and talking to the boot guy from gohunt. Ended up ordering this pair today. They have 3x rewards on them right now. So you get 72.00 in cash to use on other gear in their store. Pretty good deal on them.

Wanted to bump this back up. I have been wearing the baldo’s I bought last couple days. I’m really liking them. I think they are going to be an excellent early to mid season boot for me. Light and good lock down with the eye rollers and the tongue lock seems great too. So far A+ from me.
