Title: AR shooters-Happy groups
Post by: fowl smacker on January 01, 2023, 12:37:32 PM
People shoot AR's for different reasons.  If you just want an AR to make rapid bangs, that's ok.  I hunt with AR's also, and I'm not happy with them unless they shoot MOA or better.  Aero AR with a Ballistic Advantage barrel in .223 wylde and LaRue trigger. 1-6 Primary Arms scope and a Magpul bipod. This was a 100 yard 5 shot group today prone from the bipod.  This is an AR happy group.  I imagine with a higher power "hunting scope" these would be .5" This load data may be different in your gun so load accordingly.

I’m not an AR guy, but I bought one before the high cap mag ban (and a bunch of mags).

I did a little research and bought an RRA varmint 20”.   Installed a Timney Calvin Elite single stage trigger and a Magpul PRS stock.

Took it to the range a couple of weeks ago to break in.  7 break in rounds and 3 shot group.  Shot great with factory Sierra 55 grain Blitzkings.  Ready for yotes.

That'll do!

Since you’re rolling your own I believe you can do better. I don’t believe higher power optics would make a difference. I use a 1 MOA dot to shoot with one of my ARs, at 200yds…

Here are two groups from my Rock River Predator Pursuit.
The .45" was at 100yds
The .99 was at 200yds.
Both with HSM 77gr Matchking ammo.
I think my Rock River 18" varmint upper was even more accurate.
