Yesterday we got “Lewis & Clark”
Hopping they will pan out on the trail
-
Awesome! Are these your first pack goats? I had some for a while I never hunted with them but took them on training hikes quite a bit with there pack saddles and panniers. I had 3 but I figured I needed 6-8 to get an elk in one trip. I wish I still had them
-
Very cool!! Good luck with them!
-
I only have room for 2, and that’s stretching it.
2 and me should work just fine for deer and bear
-
.
-
Awesome! Keep this posted as the progress! Are they Oberhasli goats ?
-
Yes
One is almost 2 months
Other almost 3 weeks
It’s been fun so far. Once I am more equipped it will be better as for their pen

First hunt with a goat.
Was a lot of fun seeing his progress, maybe put some weight on them next year
-
Do they stick with you or do you have to drag them around with a leash? They sure look friendly
-
Everywhere I went he went
Didn’t use leash once, was fun
Next year he will be useful
-
Very cool

Very cool Waiting to see a pack out pic !!!
-
That’s pretty cool!
Does he still ride in your 4wheeler rack? :chuckle:

Yes.
No quads this trip though. Maybe in a few weeks
-
I need to make a goat trailer for quad
-
Very cool. I’ve read about them a bit but please, provide some more info sir. What can these critters carry for weight?

Depends on goat. 25-30% of body weight from what I read. 165-200+ is goat size.
I got mine from a dairy farmer, so they are not “pack” goat line. I’m not a crazy hiker, got them to help dad out and give daughters something to raise and give them entertainment while we are out.

This is pretty damn awesome. Some happy daughters I'm sure!

should be 3 yrs old before any weight in packs and 4 when you can load them
-
Our biggest guy. 225lbs he is a machine on the trail. He can easily pack 60lbs

Yeah, that part is a bummer.

Got out today. Me, daughter and Clark got hit good with ground hornets. Clarks eye swelled up good.
Also got a new one, we will see with him.
-
Congrats! Packgoats are addictive and simple much fun. A couple of my boys....
-
Lots of sign and berries
Heard a bugle
No bears yesterday but the goats did fine
Think there was some “establishing pecking order” sparring. We all loved to come home though
-
I had no idea this was a thing. the wife and I have already been talking about getting a goat or two. is there a specific type you get? what is their temperment like? the only goats ive known were like wary dogs, once they warmed up to you they wouldn't leave you alone.
-
Can’t wait to get weight on all of them
First time having them on a successful trip
-
No bears
Good time with daughter though
-
Started my goat trailer for behind quad
-
Very cool!!

sure gotten good use out of my packgoats, they have packed out around 18 animals for me to date. Started out with just a couple, now have a small breeding operation with a couple friends. A goat with the right build and genetics that is in shape, truly is an impressive pack animal. They can get to some places other stock just can't reach and you don't need more than a deer or elk bed for a campsite and only need to find water every few days. I'm amazed at what some of my best can traverse with a 50-60ib load

few more
-
Every have any bear, cat, wolf troubles when out and about? Thanks, quite a project!!!
-
Also picked this up the other day. I think it will work for hauling them around
-
Not done, but close
-
It worked
-
That all looks epic.
too much work for me, but epic.
Thanks for sharing.
The photos were especially cool.
