Title: Oregon Blacktail
Post by: finnman on January 11, 2023, 07:48:54 PM
I am spitballing here. I have always wanted to go hunt the central-south end of Oregon for blacktail. The season this year runs into the first week of November in some areas. That has always been to me the “golden hour” of blacktail hunting and why Washington seasons are closed for rifle during this time.
Has anyone made a habit of doing Oregon blacktail hunts? How is it and when do you like to go?
It does seem that there is a lot of public land and open timber company ground.
Thanks!

Are you thinking west or east of I-5, the B&C boundary? I never cared much for the Coast range, just too brushy for my taste, so if a true B&C qualifying blacktail is your goal, I can't help you.  PM sent.

I believe the area you noted is being selfishly kept to the folks in the know down there.....  Your research and time spent hunting the areas you have noted most likely will prove success.

Shooting a buck to make a book never made sense to me or my wife or my hunting buddies. If it’s a nice buck, take it and feel good about it. My best blacktail ever….was the first one I ever shot. A 17” wide 4x4 with nice eye guards. I have never bested it 30 years later. But….I am not a big blacktail hunter.
I am all about the entire hunt. The people, the terrain, the sky, trees, and game trails! I love learning new areas and driving 17 hours to WY is frankly getting tiresome….time for a new adventure.
