This was found in Idaho whitetail buck meat while we were butchering it. It was surrounded by meat, and was right next to the tenderloin. Fish and game said the buck was negative for CWD. Any ideas as to what this is? It looked like an avocado pit.

Nothing good
-
It's avocado dip, get some chips!

Could be a broadhead or a bullet? I killed the bull in my Avatar and it had 10 inches of a busted arrow in him and the broadhead was covered in a cartilage shell similar to what you are holding in your hand.

:puke:. That's not good!
-
Did you dissect it to see if there is anything inside?
-
As the others have said, I'd put on some gloves and cut it up. My bull from a few years ago had a third of it's backstrap present as chocolate pudding. After a little digging I found a broadhead. Pretty sure he also was hit by a car at one point.

Google 'cysts in meat' - looks like that to me, though as what kind of cyst I couldn't tell you!

Looks like a speck of copper on your thumb nail?
I'm going with last years wound.

:puke: dissect it..

Abscess, normal nasty. Endless posibilities

That was my first thought.

There are no reports of transmission from harvested deer to hunters, and properly handled and thoroughly cooked game meat is safe to eat.

That's downright disgusting!

My Idaho deer had similar this year. It was an infection in its right ear down through the gland in the neck. Tested negative for cwd also.
I see infections like that quite often on beavers that have bite marks.
I think it just a nasty old infection.

I dont think Ive ever been hungry enough to eat something that looks like that.
-
If you’d have taken to the butcher, you may never have known it was there. Lol

:yeah: Nice-looking green pus. Mmmmm.

I knew better then to click on this at lunch :bash:

Toss it and a healthy distance around it. Then enjoy the rest of your deer.

An old wound of some kind. I shot an elk in the Naselle area, and when we skinned it, we noticed a small hole with white stuff coming out of a shoulder. It had the consistency of toothpaste. When we started cutting it up, there was a fist sized pocket of the stuff, between the shoulder blade and the rib cage. And in the middle of it all was a 50 caliber maxi ball.

Shot a cow elk during muzzleloader season up in the Umtanum one year. Large pocket of guacamole dip up on the back strap above the shoulder. Turned out to be a broadhead wedged in her spine with an inch of arrow shaft still attached. We cut out the nastiness (stunk like hell) and processed her like normal. She ate just fine...

Thanks for all the feedback!! We tossed all the meat around it (unfortunately even the tenderloin) and we’re going to eat as normal!
