Title: Any coyote trappers around Yelm ?
Post by: brew on January 14, 2023, 06:16:29 PM: Don't know if it's a thing around here but I got a lot of yotes cruising my property. Usually hear them 4-5 nights a week-close. We live across from a large chicken farm and they come through all the time. Was able to shoot one today 40 yards from my patio door.

Post by: PolarBear on January 14, 2023, 06:30:41 PM: I use to at several farms right by you until they outlawed snares. Never had any luck live trapping them. Send redi on here a message. He’s somewhat local and is a licensed trapper.

I'll just say this. The only way to catch coyotes is with padded footholds requiring a permit. You will not be issued a permit unless you can show actual damage. Cruising the property will get you no permits.

Post by: brew on January 19, 2023, 06:31:27 PM: Yeah when they're drinking out of my birdbath in the middle of the day 40 yards from my backdoor that's a problem. I keep a 223 at the ready. Wife has shot a couple with a shotgun. Unfortunately I'm not home a lot to keep an eye on things but this is getting ridiculous

Bait and alarms as KF said will make the difference between hearing them 4 times a week, and having them in your crosshairs 4 times a week.

I'm not putting down the effectiveness of trapping at all, but I can attest that baiting and having motion alarms is ALSO an effective way to manage them.
